    Stripped HPFP bolt

The bolt behind the Schrader valve won't tighten. It must be stripped. I think it's the valve chain cover female thread. How do I even take that bolt out?

I'm thinking new valve chain cover and new bolt or loctite that one bolt and keep as-is or get the roller conversion kit and loctite it all up so I don't have to fuck with the pump again and hope the loctite seals and locks it in permanently.

Will it leak or fail from too much stress at the other bolt holes?

You should be able to get a pair of vise grips on the bolt head to be able to get the bolt out. If the female threads are stripped, you will want to Helicoil them. Seriously, it’s a simple process. I did all three HPFP holes while the cam chain cover was still on the car, before I added the studs and roller conversion.

I believe they’re M6 helicoils. I forget because it was 4+ years ago. They’re still holding strong (with Loctite Red).

I also have an HPFPupgrades.com upgraded cam follower. You’ll never have to swap it again. Likely not a bad $150 investment at the same time.

Great info. Thanks guys. I just wonder how far I can go with it as-is until I have time to fix it.

    Would a longer bolt work?

Don’t drive it as is. You will blow out the other two high-pressure fuel pump bolts and BNN even worst scenario. Fix it properly with about 30 minutes of time. Of time.

Oh for sure bro. I was about to take it on a big road trip. I'm going to look into your suggestion about the helicoil.

30 minutes worth of work. Just make sure you drill nice and true into the hole.

You don’t even need to put a stud in, the bolt will do the job. They only need to be tightened down to about six foot pounds.

Reach out to aluthman and ask for the rear timing cover off my spare cylinder head. Send him the money for it and shipping. $100 usd should cover him doing the work and shipping the item. Send it all to him. He’s done plenty for me so pay it forward back to him.

I have spare here but it’s going for sale with the race built cylinder head. Also leave a built head in america with all new valves in it IIRC.

Thanks gents. I appreciate it very much. God bless you.

My mechanic installed 2 helicoils. I'll get a low range torque wrench.

Glad to hear the Helicoils worked. A low yield torque wrench is probably a good idea, but I’ve never had to use one. I just got a 1/8 inch drive ratchet and sort of opposite of dick hand tighten it.

I never tq them. I use a small ratcheting bit driver, and just snug them up good. Tiny ratchet don't allow much tq, thats why I use it. Its like 7ftlb, which is like 1/2 an ugg.
