Excess Oil Consumption in 2014 Q7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So two months ago I bought my wife a 2014 Q7 S series with 3.0 supercharged engine. 73k on the odo. One owners Dealer only service.

My wife loves the car! It drives great, everything seems to work as it should, a pleasure to drive etc.

I changed the oil two weeks ago because I always do that with new car so I know where I stand as far as service etc. On Friday my wife told me she got a low oil warning and it took two quarts to get the oil to show on the dipstick. I saw no leaks when I was under the car, it was spotless, and there are no spots where she parks and as far as I know no sign of burned or blow by oil in the exhaust.

    Quite frankly I’m pretty worried.

What do you think? Where do I start?

    Thanks

    E

Check the last spark plug on last cylinder on the drivers side. If it had a heavy crude buildup it is likely the pcv valve. You can also check for excessive pressure buildup by putting the oil fill cap on loose and see what happens. Does it suck down or blow off?

On the other hand, I have had good experiences with using BG Fluids EPR and then using the MOA on vehicles that consumed oil like your does. Worth a try for the amount of money it costs to perform the service. If your mileage is low enough they even offer a warranty on the engine.

There is pretty healthy suction at the oil filler cap and dipstick. Does this eliminate any of the possible issues like bad rings?

I haven’t had time to pull the back plug.

    Thanks

Healthy suction is a good thing.

So I thought I’d revive an old thread just for poops and giggles.

Actually it’s because the Q7 continues to burn oil pretty quickly.

Like about a quart every other tank of gas.

Still have excellent suction at the filler so I checked the spark plugs on the drivers side. They all looked the same. Can’t attach photo without hosting it somewhere. Sorry

Heavy sort of cream colored crust on electrodes.

    What do you all think?

    Thanks

You need to replace the PCV. Do a carbon clean while you are there as well as thermostat and water pump. You don’t have to do all that but they are standard maintenance and you will have the car apart and it will be a straightforward job at that point.

You can try the PCV but if that doesn’t fix it sorry to say it’s the rings
