US Front License plate holder for honeycomb grill.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I ordered and received my B9 RS5 Honeycomb grill from Carbn Labs and I am looking for the license plate holder for it. I haven’t found one, wondering if someone has a part number for ‘18 RS5 plate holder and whether it would work with this grill. I have to run a front plate unfortunately and don’t want it sitting on the dash and the tow hook doesn’t appeal to me. Throws off the symmetry of the front end in my opinion.

    Any help?

I've thought about it. If I do ever, I will just get those magnet ones. I don't even have a plate, would have to go to the dmv and get new ones.

I did what this guy did, and I'm pretty happy with the result. It doesn't look very nice behind the scenes, but once the plate is on, it looks great. No need for a big ugly plate holder, and I even bent my plate to follow the contour of the grill. I added this silicone surround on the plate itself to give it a more finished look.

I’ve been using these for all the RS grilles I’ve installed. Cheap and easy to install. 3-4 tie wraps. Mount the plate to the holder. Done.

Doesn’t the sto and show require you to drill holes into the bumper?

Yes- had to drill two small holes under the front lip to install. Not noticeable unless you’re under the car looking for it. That’s on the A5 anyway, not sure if it’s different for other models. I can definitely see why someone wouldn’t want to do it on a more expensive model

I use sly brackets for my carbnlab grille.

Only thing is the area it clips will have the bottom of the plate kinda hiding the QUATTRO words

I would say a dremel tool if you have one. The one I have with the exception of the spots for the camera and sensors has only three honeycombs that are open. Those were for the euro plate mount/bracket.

dude this is genius haha. i have that same magnet phone mount inside, and i have the honeycomb grille on my B8 and went the toggle bolt route. but i always wanted to do something with magnets for easy on and off, and always thought of some way to clip onto the honeycomb openings, i can't believe i didnt think of this lol.

how well does it stay on? has it ever shifted or gotten loose over bumps, or im guessing theyre strong enough though and the plate is pretty light. this needs to be an official audi part now LOL. patent and release your own audi plate mount.

I have an RS5 SB and use the oem factory license plate holder. No drama or adapting needed. It just works. It's present on my profile image - I just blacked out the license plate. I also purchased a nice black frame with a clear plexiglass/plastic plate cover.

However, my previous car was a B8.5 S4 and I installed the RS style grill from ecstuning.com. I also purchased the license plate holder for the B8.5 RS5 (ecs part #2557315). It was pricey, but more substantial than the others I found at the time. However, the replacement grill had no accommodation for the oem license plate holder, so I had to adapt it a bit. I don't remember exactly what I did, but I think I had to trim a little bit of plastic on the grill or license plate holder. Not hard, just necessary. Then, I used stainless bolts and washers with locking nuts.

I don't know which oem plate holders would match your new grill, but the oem grills have a rounded countour to them, and the plate holder I found matched that countour so everything was solid and looked like it belonged. If you need a part number, go to a dealer web site and get a VIN for a B9 RS5 on the lot, then call the parts department and tell them what's going on. They can use that VIN to look up the license plate holder part number for that car.

It’s very strong. I have gone through touch less car washes and 150kph on highway with no issues. When I try to take it off the magnets won’t let go most times and the whole contraption pulls off (which I actually prefer, cleaner looking for photos).

Gotcha, thanks. Yeah I used the same for my phone and it's pretty good, I just wasn't sure how it would hold up to like a sudden jolt at high speeds or something but yea that's good to know, if it stands up to the car wash then I think that's all I need to know lol. But yeah this would be perfect, I had toggle bolts so I could take them on and off when needed for pics and stuff but they're still a bit of a hassle to snap in and out each time, this definitely is cleaner and easier, thanks for the idea.

I know this is an old thread but what brand of phone holders are those with the magnets to use for the plate on the grill? I just got my new RS5 Sportback and don't have the front plate on now but I'm worried about getting tickets. I have the plate in the car with me and can just say it broke and I'm waiting for a new one but that prob only works one time. Something that can be put on and take off easily for yearly inspections would be great. So please let me know so I can order these on Amazon. Much appreciated!

To add another option: I ordered a Sly bracket from: https://www.slybrackets.com/ , and it really works well. Very well constructed, excellent instructions. No drilling required. I mounted it low on the grill, just above the splitter.

I just put license plate screws in the holes and painted them with rustoleum black paint. Now unless you get right up on the grill you don't even see them (I have black optics so the grill is all black).

I found this one that uses the existing pre-threaded holes in the bumper and is adjustable (up and down).

I haven't purchased it yet because I've been running no plate, but I just got a ticket for it so I'm considering checking this one out.

I just bought this same one as well. I had the tow hook one from Craven Speed which was made like a tank but once I put the plate on the minor overlap of the license plate started to trigger my parking sensor. I didn't want to angle it so I said forget it. Let me get this one that you recommend. It looks perfect, its centered which looks better and if they eventually drop to one plate in NJ I can just unscrew this.

$117 or $10 if you correct it.

Mounted the Slybracket using the Euro threaded holes and that bracket works perfectly. Looks great centered and doesn't interfere with any of the sensors. Total 100% win as far as a bracket is concerned. Recommend it 100% all the way!!
