Has anyone pried the fuel filler door carefully open? Anything break if you do? Can it be closed again? Heard about a credit card method but not 100% sure. Thanks

Just in case you were not aware, your fuel door locks with your doors.

I did too, but other platforms and nothing specific to my question. Most where videos of the fuel release in the trunk.

I had this happen on day #1 of ownership... The fuel door actuator went bad. It would not unlock & the emergency cable would not open either. I got it to the dealer & they replaced the actuator and a few other pieces and sent me on my way.

im pretty sure the dealership broke the actuator to disconnect it, they replaced everything in there except the fuel door. Were you able to get it figured out?

good actuator same but door design is not the same, anyway videos did not help either way. might as well show me one from a ford while you at it. I posted it in here to find people with same EXACT filler door design and car as mine, if not i'd post it in VW/Skoda/A5/A4 forums. also i had searched google before i posted like i always do and it didn't help. which is why i posted in here cause all those videos did nothing nor are the design/latch the same. Looking for A3,S3,RS3 OWNERS ONLY. Thanks! anyway this thread can be closed now, RS3 owners were more helpful and pointed me in the right direction, buncha cool guys in there who do more than copy and paste.

I had this happen today, I used this thread and others to remove the actuator until I replace it. The emergency/manual pull also did not work as the actuator seemed to be "seized".

FYI: The actuator rotates about 90 degrees to lock the fuel filler door.

For context, there is a fuel filler door (FFD) inner plastic housing and the FFD outer painted piece. Which I shall call FFDI and FFDO.

    Steps:
    1) Use a plastic pry tool (or screwdriver with some protection as to not scratch paint). Pry the PPDO away from the PPDI outward. Leave the pry tool or cloth jammed in that approx 1/2" gap.
    2) Using your hands, push down the TOP blue circle tabs and push up the BOTTOM blue circle tabs
    3) Now the FFDI/FFDO will come away from the body
    4) Slide the FFDO to the LEFT to remove it from the FFDI - don't drop it as it might scratch. The green circles, 3 top and 3 bottom show the slide tabs. - the FFDO is not shown in my pics
    5) Remove the gas cap and rubber surround, this made it easier remove the actuator, and you get more play, the entire FFDI should come out further. Caution this is a white fuel drain line (?) and actuator wiring still attached. I didn't remove these, but I will have to find the other end of the actuator cable once I get my replacement - not sure where that terminates yet.
    6) Use a 90 degree Torx driver/ratchet and bit (I forget the bit size) to remove the two screws shown in orange circles. If you have enough "hand torque" you can just use a long bit - I DID IT THIS WAY lol
    7) The actuator is now free from the FFDI, rotate it from the housing and it will come free - YOU CAN NOW OPEN THE fuel filler door!
    8) I tucked the manual red pull cable and actuator into a gap to the left of the fuel filler until I replace the actuator
    9) The FFDI door will now open and close. Put the FFDI back in the the body, the four blue circle clips will click
    10) Put the rubber gas filler surround around the gas filler neck and put the gas cap back on
    11) Slide the PPDO on to the PPDI plastic door, sliding to the RIGHT. Make sure all green circle tabs are in and aligned before sliding to the RIGHT
    12) I kept a trim piece tool in the trunk to open the door, until I replace the actuator

    THANKS ALL!
