    Mythos Black Metallic Paint Match

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey All,

Recently got into an accident and will be getting new bumper. Wanted to see if anyone had any mythos black paint matched and how difficult it is for shops to do it. I know that aftermarket paint will never be the same as OEM but wanted to know what I should expect.

I know lighter colors such as, white/grey are harder to match in terms of tone and shade but since Mythos black is pretty dark, is it something easier for shops to match? Asking because I want to know what to expect when the paint job is done. Now I’m not expecting a 10k paint job but I want to be sure I’m not getting a $100 paint job as well.

Note: I am not taking it to a shop that works on ferraris but it isn’t a random shop on Yelp either. The shop is going to mix the paint and match it to my gas cover.

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated!

    Thanks

I get your wanting to save some cash but IMHO, when it comes to paint (especially the Audi Metallic colors), these are the hardest to get right.

It’s better to have it done by a certified Audi repair shop (or at least a VERY reputable high end paint shop) because they get proper training on how to apply the blends and colors correctly. Not to mention they guarantee the work for a year.

Think of it this way; would you rather do it for cheap now to potentially have issues down the line with fading, clearcoat, etc. and to have to spend more time and money to correct it? Or would it be better to wait and save up to have the job done right the first time.

FWIW, I had my Ara Blue rear quarter panel painted by a Audi certified collision center and the work was outstanding. You’d never even know it was repainted because of an idiot denting it

Ive heard horror stories from "certified Audi repair shop" so can't always trust them. I think it really depends on the painter but as I said the shop im bringing the car to specializes in restoration and have worked on SEMA show cars. I wouldn't consider them "high end" but they definitely know a thing or two about paint.

My friend recently got some paint work done on his 3series at the shop im going to. To my understanding, matching metallic silver is quite difficult compared to metallic black. Are you guys able to spot the mismatch (if any) on the car

I am rebuilding Myths black Audi TT. The body shop did a good job matching it. I will have the car back on Thursday and can send you pictures. It looked pretty good when I was there the last time.

Thanks! Now would you say this shop is “high end” or you think matching mythos is pretty easy

The quality of the pictures isn’t good for really inspecting the paint (because of the forum formatting, not you)

Maybe try hosting them on a site and attach the link here instead?

These are Flickr links embedded. I believe if you click on them, it goes to the website. Not sure though

Any reputable shop should do a good job matching. However just so you know, its impossible to get a plastic bumper cover to match the metal panels 100%

The hood and fender have been replaced, door is original mythos. The shop didn't do blending. I don't think it was high end body shop.
