My S6 got a brand new transmission total was $17000. Do I get reimbursed, and do I contact Audi of America directly?

Should I wait to ECU/TCU tune to see how this settles? 2013 S6. I have the obvious clunky shifting. 67k miles 3rd owner. I've never had a warranty Would love to have the DSG rebuilt, if it would be covered. Thank you.

I would just have a good indy VAG shop do it and bill/get reimbursed by audi.

Looks like the details of the settlement are not yet public. However, it will likely include reimbursement up to a capped amount for repairs already done, as well as extended warranty for everyone else. Wait for the settlement details to be published.

They won’t rebuild it. You’ll get a new trans. Check the fluid if it’s ugly it’s the clutch pack. If the fluid is clear obvi check mounts first. Check faults if mounts are good. If u have shift valve/fork faults the car needs a mech. Regardless the extension will cover the transmission and any components.

I have replaced a few mechs (Audi tech over here) the valves/forks that select gears stick. And cause a rough shift. A tune will possibly correct it until the mech has failed completely and need a new one. And since you’ve flashed the software it’ll definitely TD1 flag because we have to perform the warranty check in odis everytime powertrain/drivetrains needs fixing. And you don’t get a new trans out of it.

When you say “you’ve flashed the software it’ll definitely TD1 flag” are you referring to a TCU tune? I don’t have that yet and I’m at 88k. But I do have an apt stage 1 tune.

TD1 flag is any changes in code. Apr tune will definitely cancel your chances at a new trans. Even if u flash it back to stock. It still picks up that change in coding. We flag a bunch of cars not purposely. Most times we don’t even know the car is tuned or has been. But in order for Audi to approve warranty work on driveline or powertrain repairs, they want us to run the warranty check which checks the coding in lol the modules. They’ll back flag us the techs however many hours the repair paid and the dealer eats a $17k transmission or whatever the fix was. Unless you have a 2021 Audi with MTM un-detectable software lol your gonna get TD1 flagged.

In that case go to a 3rd party to get the work done. The class action covers work performed at locations other than an Audi dealership.

No, this is if you had already got the work done elsewhere and can prove what you paid. Due to there being a warranty extension now. U have to bring it to the dealer. They will not reimburse you. After they have released the settlement statement.

I wonder how far this warranty extends, to what mileage and whether only the first owners are eligible. My car has 150+ kmiles, I’m probably not going to be eligible. But heck, even something would be good.
I’m not at all surprised by this, putting inherently flawed designs out is so VW and Audi. I doubt you can create a mass market DCT for 50-60k cars and not cut any corners to cut the costs. Seems like Audi banked on their not so reliable but performing good for their respective classes ea888 gen 2 and DL501 to increase their market share in the early 2010s and then use the money generated from the projected sales of newer cars like b9s to deal with warranty and class action issues.

"Per press time, the Audi Defective Transmission Class Action Lawsuit Settlement Agreement’s details have not been released to the public."

A quick search doesn't turn up a whole lot for this case, and while the parties involved may have reached an agreement, nothing indicates that it's a done deal and able to start paying out on claims. Which is to say,

I have no idea how anyone in this thread is saying how the claims process will go when the documents that define the process aren't yet available.

Well it looks like I'll be hopping on this ASAP! 2016 S6 with 67k miles, trans completely locked up on the highway and left me stranded in Milwaukee. Waiting on the installation bill of my used transmission, so far the bill is at $4k for parts and used trans.

As of now, it's not through 2015 model year. Hopefully it gets bumped to the newer models as my 16 ages.

I just have jerks at times when driving. Some slipping also but I chalked that up to having a stage 1 apr tune. I’m goi g to get the tcu tune in the next few weeks. Hopefully that will fix it. Should I get a tranny flush?

The C6 S6 also didn’t have a DSG either now that you mention it

Apparently the lawsuit has gone through several amendments. I don't have access to the text of the lawsuit or the settlement. OP's quote seems to be from a reporter's article, not a lawsuit filing. From another article:

"According to the Audi defect class action lawsuit, VW manufactured and sold 2010-2014 model year Audi S4, S5, S6, S7 and RS5 vehicles with defective direct-shift gearbox transmissions that caused “sudden, rough, unexpected shaking and violent jerking” when drivers attempted to accelerate and shift the cars into second, third or fourth gear and attempted to decelerate. A later amended claim added 2015 models to the lawsuit."

I would interpret that as the first gearbox was sold in 2010 in at least one of those models, and by 2014 (amended to 2015) had been sold in at least one year in all of those models. This article further states:

"“The proposed Settlement provides for a percentage reimbursement to all Settlement Class Members that have paid out-of-pocket expenses for one Covered Repair (of a diagnosed condition of transmission shuddering, juddering, rough shifting or improperly entering into “limp mode”),” the document says. VW will also pay back vehicle owners a portion of their transmission repair or replacement costs based on the mileage and age of the vehicle when the repair happened. Reimbursement ranges from 100 percent for vehicles that were up to four years old and under 50,000 miles, to 20 percent for vehicles that were between eight and nine years and between 80,001 and 90,000 miles. For those who had their repairs done at a non-authorized Audi dealer, reimbursement for replacement of the mechatronic unit is capped at $5,000 and replacement of the transmission is capped at $12,000."

As bahula03 implied in post #16, wait for the settlement document to be published.
