Buying a Used S5 Sportback (questions!)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I just sold my 2016 A7 after 3 years of ownership because Carvana offered a price too good to decline.
Back when I was buying my A7, I had the option to either lease a 2018 S5 SB or Purchase my A7. I loved the S5 but decided for the purchase.
3 Years later, the S5 SB looks to be in my price range around the 2019 models.

    What I am looking for:
    2019+
    Black Optics
    Sports Package
    Under 20k Miles
Daytona Gray or Nardo Gray (Settle for Mythos Black or Quantum)
Premium Plus ( Prestige not necessary but sure)

I know the used market is balls right now, which is why my A7 sold for so much, what do you guys think the price would have been for a 2019 model... without all the shortages and supply problems?

On average, the spec's I am looking for are going for around 55K average. I'm wondering if i should just wait a couple of months or just bite the bullet and purchase a currently overpriced S5...

Also has anyone here owned this vehicle

Slight modifications has me on the fence about this one.

A Nardo S5 is extremely rare from what I've seen - I'm not sure if it's a special order (AE) deal on the S5, but Quantum is going to be much easier to find. 55k seems about right for the specs you're after - only you can decide whether it's 'worth it' right now. I don't think prices are going to drop in a couple of months though, so may as well pull the trigger now.

I purchased my 2019 prestige with 30k miles CPO back in December for $49k. At the time to me that was a great deal specially cause its prestige and was the color combo I wanted. I live in the NYC area where cars right now are at a premium and technically are always at a premium just because the area. At the time everything I found was over $55k. I purchased my car from an Audi dealer in South Burlington Vermont. I only found it because I was on Audiusa.com for like 2 months straight and the morning it was posted I sent my info so the dealership can contact me. Mind you I still didn't know what the car looked like cause they had no pictures uploaded yet. I just read the spec sheets from the site and I was sold. When they finally uploaded pictures and sent me a YouTube video of the car I was already doing finance paper work. The only reason I found the car at that price was cause I purchased it 3 states away. They even delivered it to my house at no extra charge because of COVID. Not sure where you live and I know cars are at a scarce but maybe look further away you might find a better deal.

I was thinking that, but I don't think I could buy the car without looking at it.. and test driving that specific car to see if I feel any anomolies.
I live in LA right now and options are pretty scarce. I do have a daily driver right now.. I just really have that itch to buy this car.. even though I would be buying it somewhat overpriced because of the chip shortage.
I guess really I am looking for someone to persuade me not to buy it yet haha

Damn, found a 2020 today Black with red interior... went to test drive and jesus.... previous owner had liquid wrapped his vehicle... and wrapped his rims.. but attempted to remove the wrap before returning the vehicle.
After doing a little digging around and research I found the owner of the car and the photo of what it used to look like.

Every crevice has pink.. purple? residue everywhere and he had the side red S5 badge scratched off.

The dealer promises to get new badges and get rid of all the wrap residue.. anyone have experience with ... liquid wrap removal and its effect on the car paint?

i'm a long time user of liquid wrap on my car over the years. i have a B8 A4, recently looking to get a B9.5 S5 SB and stumbled upon this thread. he probably used plastidip, the wrap is fine, you can try to peel it yourself and see, as long as it was installed properly and he had enough material/coats, it should be thick and should peel off pretty easily. the cracks and stuff it comes off but can just be tedious to clean, but it comes off easy with some citrus cleaner/dip dissolver and pressure washer. as for the paint condition, i wouldnt worry about it, it should be fine underneath and it actually protects the factory paint, so it would prevent swirl marks and stuff over time as well.

the main issue could just be if it wasn't properly installed it will be a bit more tedious to slowly peel off, but if the dealer is going to get it to you with it fully removed anyway you'll be fine, it shouldn't have damaged anything, and you can just do an inspection anyway to make sure.

Hey there - I live in Northern VA and have been searching for months via Audi.com, Cargurus, Autotrader etc for a Quantum Grey (origionally wanted Magna Red Interior, but have changed to black) 2019 SB. Came super close on cars in CA, CO, NC (all were QG with Red) but were all sold by the time I could get an offer in. Was super frustrated and had given up on the Quantum and had expanded to Daytona. Paid for shipping for a CarMax car to be shipped from TN to VA. Did a 24 Hr test drive, loved the car, agreed with sales consultant I'd be back with my wife to sign the papers in a few days. Had a car on Hold at CarMax (off lease 2019 with 11.5 k miles). The night before I was to sign the papers, he calls me and says another sales person sold the car. Super frustrated at this point. I own 2 other Audis (Q7 and Q3) and I never thought the market for these S5's would be as hot as it is, at least for the Prestige's.

But I found one the other day near me in Winchester VA, and I hopefully am picking it up Saturday (if someone doesn't sell it out form under me). Moral to the story is be patient if the color or color combo is more important than features.

I'm picking up a 2019 S5 SB 11.5K miles, Quantum Grey with Black interior
    Prestige
    Black Optics
    S Sport Package
    Carbon inlays

Price was $56k, I added full tint to windows. So your thinking of @$55 is close. The others I was close to were in the $55-62 range. The $62 was a 2020 with 4k miles and a 2021 with 6K miles. Good luck and keep plugging away at it.

I just picked up a 2018 S5 Sportback Prestige/fully loaded with 22k miles. Paid 49k. Not a terrible deal and the car is pristine. Looked for a few months.

if that was a 2020+ i'd have come bought it lol.

i would explore both options, see what you can get most for. maybe put up a quick listing on the forums here to get a feeler, and you can also list on cargurus and fb marketplace/craigslist (for a small fee). check out existing cargurus listings to see a good value to list price at.

and are you planning to get a new car right after? you can ask around dealers and see what trade in offers they give, everything is higher now so you should get a decent amount. and i guess if it's not too much lower than selling privately, it may be worth just trading in so the process is a lot easier and hassle free, transferring to the new car, etc. and not dealing with transferring to private buyer, handling payment, paying the tax, etc.
