    Camshaft Locking Tool for B8 2.0T A4 (2010)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have been trying to find the camshaft locking tool for a B8 2.0T A4 (2010) similar to the T10252 tool for the B7 engine. Does anyone know the part number for that? I have to remove the cylinder head to replace the head gasket and I don't want to have to do a full re-timing.
I have the sprocket locks but not the camshaft holder tool. Any help would be appreciated.

Check my thread on how to rebuild the engine. I shared a link to a tool place that sells them but also a whole kit.

Wow, just read through most of your build thread. That was amazing. Unfortunately, I think you pulled your camshafts out so you didn't lock them in place. I was hoping to avoid doing the timing. I know for the B7 the part # is T10252, but for the life of me I can't find the same thing for the B8. Or I just don't know what to look for .

I did lock them as part of the tear down. For you, you would stop there and then proceed on instead of continuing the tear down.

What youre trying to do is damn near impossible.
This car has no crank locking tool so there is your first problem
You must undo the tension on the chain to get it off so who knows where your reference crank will be.
Your sprocket lock tool is the only tool locks the cams as the cams are attached to sprockets.

I guess you could line it up visually with the timing mark for crank on the lower timing cover. Lock the sprockets, then remove the chain.
You would then though have to remove the head bolts without removing the cam cover as that is holding the cams in place.
So yeah it could be done with what you have already.
I'd wonder why you think you have a bad head gasket though. I've never seen one fail ever..

For the B7 engine they make a simple part that bolts down over the twin cams and holds them in place. I just assumed that there would be one for the B8 engine.

Loosing coolant through the exhaust, and cyl's 1 & 2 my compression is about 180 and on 3 & 4 it is around 135 & 140. The engine may have overheated as well the first time (my daughter didn't tell me she was low on coolant the first time).

It doesn't look that bad to do the timing, but was hoping to avoid it if I could. Probably should replace the chain & tensioner then. Car has a lot of miles, but I want to get the head off before I buy any more parts.

    Thank for the info!

How/why are you pulling a head without the workshop manual to detail the necessary specifics for the task? Such as the necessary special tools like the T40271 camshaft clamps (https://audi.snapon.com/SpecialTools...temId=39240123).

What do you mean by avoid doing the timing? You're taking the head off, you have no option there. No idea what doing the timing on the belt drive EA113 entailed, but it's a pretty simple task on the EA888.

The 113 motor is completely different , and the timing tools.for that motor is crap anyway and most guys get it wrong even with the tool..
I would suggest a lot of reading before attempting this as these motors are completely different and this motor is far more complex..

Thanks, I do have the manual for this engine but I only realized how different from the B7 after these comments. I really appreciate all of the comments from everyone.

lots of guys on here have done the timing many times and will help. I think you have everything you need and are ready to go !!!

this could be the first head gasket we have seen fail . the block wont warp . its an iron block, but i can see the head warping i guess.

I have this exact set. Cheap as hell but it works fine.

Bump it up to $60 and get the crank holding tool.

    I also have these.

The first time I tore a head down on a CAEB, I bumped one of the cam sliders and the spring and detent shot into orbit(Thank goodness that complete head was going in the garbage). These prevent that from happening.

I didn’t need any tools to set the timing on my engine. Just match the marks on the chain up to the marks on the gears. Nothing to it. One of the easiest timing chains I’ve ever done, the cams don’t fight you at all.

how did you tighten the crank bolt ?

also how did you loosen the 24ft/lb left hand threaded spool valve ?

i did not use any of the other tools either though as i was doing a complete rebuild.
