New Q7 = no mo snow chains?

I'm back in an audi with a 2021 q7. Dealer told me, and made me sign an acknowledgement, that normal snow chains will damage the undercarriage or something. Cant use em.
So with a winter trip to yosemite already on the calendar I've started looking for a solution. Is there a lo profile set of cables that people use with success?

FYI, im in LA so summer or all seasons for me day to day. I'm fine with dedicated snow wheelset shod with a 3peaks tire but now I see that even with awd and snow tires caltrans can in fact still require chains depending on road conditions so it seems I need to have a set of something in the car at least.

What are yall using for chains/cables?

I bought a set of chains last winter for a trip up to the AZ Snowbowl, but I ended up not needing them, at least not for any of the driving around I did. I went effortlessly through fluffy snow and packed snow, though I don’t know how densely. Only one teensy slip and the Quattro corrected it immediately, awesome.

When turning the wheel and it is at nearly full lock, I noticed the corner of the tire gets maybe within a 1/2” of the front fender liner. I can see how chains would wreck that. I’m in a 4L with 21” wheels and Pirelli trash bags I mean tires. Those are summer tires and that’s what I took to the Snowbowl. The wheels are like 10” wide, so that probably contributes to the tight clearance.

You could consider stud-able tires, but if you got some 3-peak tires, you’d probably be fairly unstoppable. A set of snow wheels/tire combo will probably be about 8” wide at the rims, so that might help.

I’ve only been to Yosemite in the summer, so I don’t know how crazy that entrance road gets in the winter, but I imagine it will be decently prepared (along with all the others) for passenger vehicle travel. I have been to the Grand Canyon in the snow, and the Q7 has been a champ.

At least OP gave us more background information here than he did on Reddit when posting the same question. Smart ass answers like snow and ice to relevant background questions will return you some pretty shitty responses on general forums like Reddit.

    Fwiw:
I just came out of a Tdi Q7. Had summer tires on 20s. Never got stuck where I couldn’t get out. And we drove all around the Mt. Hood National forest. Unless you’re doing something really dumb, I think you’re fine.

To be clear, I'm not looking for chains because I want them for traction. I'm confident I'd survive. But the question is caltrans requirements to pass check stations. If I need to have them on or at least in the car then I'd like a set that won't damage the car.

I'll look into the peerless z6. That seems to be the lowest profile I can find.

New Q7 = no mo snow chains?

Do you need “chains” or is an “Autosock” sufficient?

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but did you ever try these chains and did they work?

Anyone else have experience with chains that work? I have a 2021 Q7 with 255/55r19.
