    RS3 owner new to Unitronic

    Hi guys!

    So I took advantage of the Unitronic Sale and got myself the Uniconnect Plus with stage 1 - 2 ECU and TCU files.

    The idea is to flash Stage 1 since the only mods I have are an Eventuri intake, Powerflex dogbone insert and H&R springs with Bilsten B8 dampers. Here is a pic of my 2018 Ara Blue Sportback.


    Here in South Africa, 91 oct is the highest octane fuel we get. I noticed with the Stage 2 programs, that Exhaust crackle/Overrun can only be enabled on 93 oct programs or higher. Is there any particular reason to this?

    Do you have E85 over there? Also, you can program your valves to stay open to mimic a more dynamic sound.

    Very, very scarce. No E85 at the oumps. And we resort to octane boosters for higher output files. But for daily driving it will for sure have to be the 91 file.

    I have been running 91 oct Unitronic for a few months straight now, no complaints, the car is as reliable as it was the two previous record breaking hot Arizona desert summers and not a single hiccup, on top of that I am located in a dusty area and at altitude and the 91oct Unitronic file is proven to be reliable.

    As far is the pop and cracks, I don't have it and I don't want it, it can get as annoy as the open dump to atmosphere BOV.. cool for a few minutes but seriously annoying.

    If you are willing to consider the higher Unitronic file (93 oct) your most feasible/practical option would be just buying the octane booster. I have to attached the link of a couple of good brands that will increase your Oct from 91oct to 93.5 or 93.6oct by adding the concentrate (I have seen the dyno test). If you buy them by a box it might be cheaper but each bottle will run you between $7-$8.
    8V RS3 [email protected] mph (ran a few 11.7s stock and ran 118+mph several times)
    8Y RS3 k&N filter ran [email protected] (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)
    at 3100ft elevation

    If you have the uni injectors, there is a file you can run that is stage 2 91 octane with crackles and pops, 91 with pops is actually louder than E85 with pops. Not sure about stage 1, but I’ve ran 91 with stage 2 and the injectors. I switch to 93 every 4 months for two fill ups, just in case vs always using E85, some people say that’s better for the car.

    This! I run the stage 2 (with injector) 91 tune when I'm not on e85 and the pops and bangs are a bit obnoxious at times. Only issue is you'd need to invest in a down pipe, injectors, and turbo inlet.

    I do believe there is a stage 2 91 file that doesn't require injectors that would save you a little money if you don't have E85 around. I'd assume that one would have pops and bangs.

    Can confirm - Stage 2, 91 octane, stock injectors, intake, downpipe+midpipe, intercooler. Can also confirm pops & bangs. Only need injectors for E85.

    Conversely, for those who absolutely do not want any sort of pops and cracks with their 93 tune, what options do we have?

    I'm guessing APR? I had APR stage 1+ and was able to specify "no, minimal or a lot" of pops/crackles. "minimal" was pretty tame. I don't know if they have those options for higher stages but that would be my guess?

    Honestly that might be enough of a reason for me to go to a minimal stage 3 and switch back to APR

    My wife's RS3 is on APR's stage 2 tune and it pops and crackles like crazy. I don't intend to start with stage 1 and would like to get my feet wet at stage 2. The rare, super occasional pop, is somewhat acceptable but, with how often her car pops and bangs, I can't live with that.

    Bummer... I prefer the sleeper look and sound too.
