Key Not Dectected After Subwoofer Install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently upgraded my stock B&O sound system with new subwoofers in my 2019 S5 Prestige Coupe. Since the install, I.have been having intermittent issues with the key fob not being detected. I have already replaced the battery, and ruled that out as the cause. I can unlock the car by touching the inside of the handle, but I cannot lock by touching the outside of the handle. During my drive to work the "key not detected" issue will happen about 2-3 times, lasting a few seconds to a few minutes each time. The key is always in my left pocket, my phone is plugged into the center console (nothing else in my left pocket, other than the key ring and a couple keys). I have tried to catch it on my obd11, but get no codes for that.
I have also had a couple issues with the new sub. A few times when I turned the car on, the sub wouldn't come on. Ran the obd11 and it said "B130C11 - Double subwoofer speaker 1 Short circuit to ground" a few times, both static and intermittent at times. Once I cleared this code, the subs come back to life. I'm thinking this issue is because the stock sub was unplugged during install. Is there a way to solve this other than installing a relay to the stock sub?
But I cannot figure out this key issue. Any thoughts?

Sorry, I do not have an answer for you but there are a couple things that I am wondering about.
Did you disconnect the car battery before you did the sub-woofer install?
I have read that a car battery that is low can cause intermittent issues with key fobs.
Obviously there are many causes for this type of problem that can be addressed by re-programming your fobs. The procedure for this varies between models.
Last, I have seen where sometimes disconnecting the car battery for a minute can re-set certain car functions.
I am sure this is no help but I do not like to see when someone posts and no one even answers.

Did you disturb anything else back there? Sounds like an antenna connection is loose.

Did you just replace the subwoofer driver or did you also put in an amplifier? If you also put in an amplifier you may need to add a load if that amplifier is anything other than it kick your key 500.1. you can also just disable the subwoofer presents check with your scan tool if you wish.

I've never heard of anybody having problems with the key fob working after doing a subwoofer job and certainly didn't happen in my car. I know there are antennas all over the place and it is possible that an antenna was knocked loose or unplugged maybe?

An antenna being knocked loose is the only thing I can think of that might cause this. But it's odd because everything was done in the trunk and now even the touch to lock on the handle doesn't work all the time.
an amplifier was installed. What about kicking the key to 500.1?

Oh forgot to answer the stock question. The stock subwoofer is still installed. Actually, hooked back up now in an attempt to solve the short circuit to ground problem. So the extra subs are still in there, with their own amplifier.

EDIT: plugging the stock sub back in didn't work either. Just got the B130C11 code again this morning... Will probably unplug the stock sub again soon.

It might help if I told you what I had installed...I have 2 12" 2 ohm SVC 700W subs (model # CS300S2) with an 800.1 Evo X amp with a JL audio LOC22

I saw your write up on this earlier. I think my best bet at this point is to go this route. How do I determine which channel to uncheck? Is it in the fault code? (B130C11) Or is it going to be like a guess and check thing? Should I just uncheck them all?

Some of the comfort access antennas are in the boot on the back wall of the boot that faces the bumper. So it's quite possible that in routing the wires the Kessy antenna daisy chain has been upset

Oh yes you'll definitely need a load or to disable the check in the VAG-COM with that LoC. I believe it was channels 16 and 15

Thanks! Ok, turned those off with obdeleven. And now we play the waiting game to see what happens next...

Soooo that didn't work. Channels must be incorrect. Any other channel suggestions? Or will it be a guess and check game?

You can always add a resistive load to the subwoofer outputs. You can use this one or make your own but make it 40 ohms or less: https://www.kicker.com/46KISLOAD4

So the LoC that was installed actually has this built in already, they call it their USS (Universal Speaker Simulator). The installer is kinda stumped and is thinking maybe instead of using both LoC outputs they should only use one? Since this is a double subwoofer set up, they wired up one of the outputs to the left channel of the LOC and the other output to the right. The LOC should keep them isolated from each other so maybe thats whats causing the short to ground?

Many LOCs have loads in them but almost all of them have too high of a resistance. The Audi subwoofer test checks for 50 ohms or less and most of those devices are 64 to 120 ohms because they don't want to generate too much heat. That's why you need something much lower like the kicker one that I linked to I think is 24 ohms and has a nice chunky heat sink.

And yes you must attach a separate load to both channels. Again the kicker one is nice because it actually has two loads in it

Gotcha. At this point I'm thinking maybe it would just be easier to turn off all the byte_X_channel_XX_TT (channels 1-14 are still on right now, all others are off) in obdeleven and be done with it. Would that work? Are there any downsides to doing this?

Yes that approach works well and reliably if you can figure out which channels you need to turn off. I don't know if there are consequences to turning off all of them or not

So I guess not as reliable a fix as I thought... I have all of the channels turned off, and my car still threw the B130C11 code. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't expect it to be a static code. Intermittent probably, or a one time trip?

Does it still play the subwoofer channel? If so, ignore the error.

When I turn the car on, the subs are dead. I run a scan with obdeleven. once it passes the sound system check, the subs come back on. I can either leave or clear the fault, doesn't matter, subs will work for the rest of the day. In a day or so, repeat problem.
I also just found out the LoC sli2 input impedance is dynamic. So sounds like I need to switch it out for the kicker one?

Yes but if you have OBD 11 you should be able to turn off the subwoofer presence check which would also solve the problem.

Which is what I thought I did when I turned off the byte_X_channel_XX_TT channels 1-16?

I am not really sure. In my car it was channel 15 and 16 but I think it might be different in the cars for the spare tire subwoofer.

Are you sure you are logged into the correct controller?
