    Impressive gas mileage!

I took my first longer trip in my 2018 SQ5 today. 360 miles and averaged 28.1 MPG. I think that's pretty good for a vehicle rated at 24 MPG on the highway.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been a little worried but that is beyond acceptable. If I get anything over 26 I’ll be pleased.

If you are easy on the gas the car does really great on fuel especially on the highway. Most importantly going real easy until the car is fully warmed up (170° F or higher) makes a huge difference.

I was worried about gas mileage when I bought mine too, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got 28-30 on a couple long road trips. And even just the overall average for my first 5,000 miles has been about 25mpg.

    Nice!
I had to make a day trip 3 hrs away, so I filled up before and after I got back to check the actual fuel I used.
I did notice that the Consumption figures were higher than my actual mpg, but I'm pretty happy with 28 mpg on the interstate with some city driving.

As long as you're not hitting lits of traffic, lights, or stop signs, the SQ5 exceeds expectations by far. I've averaged 28+ since the beginning 3 years ago and 35k miles (actual tracked mileage on Fuelly). I've average 30+ in the summers since getting the APR tune a year ago (from 29+ before). Winter roads take it down 2 mpg.

Yet, there are those who live in LA traffic and average in the teens. Stay off the brake and prosper. YMMV.

I did a 7-hour drive the other day. The car claims an average of 69mph at 25.8 MPG. Lots of cruise control. Rarely went the speed limit and was not going for efficiency. Was driving for “get me out of this car ASAFP” instead.

Would like it to be more efficient but can’t complain really considering the performance.

I've had my E85 tune on now for 900 miles and I am getting 11.6 mpg over that distance. I've never bought a car based on MPG or even cared about it. My 2018 F150 gets 8.7mpg over the last 1200 miles so this is an improvement. I can always put more gas in the tank and the enjoyment of driving the car vs hypermiling for every MPG is a trade off I am fine with.

    Just for fun,

What is your favorite Speed / RPM range for highway driving when you are going for MPG?

I used to drive 80+ everywhere and was seeing only 22ish mpg. (1 hour 22 min 50 seconds and 5 gallons of gas).

I did an experiment last night on a 110 mile trip doing 58mph - 65mph and kept it around 1500 rpm and averaged 29 mpg over the whole trip (both directions). (1 hour 46 min 45 seconds at 62mph avg 3.79 gallons of gas)

Is 7mpg worth the 23 min? 1.2 gallons saved or a little under $5 bucks saved? ($4.369 per gallon of 93 here on average).

I guess that is a time value of money question... if your time is worth more than $13/hr are you saving money?

I've gotten between 23 and 25 mpg on the highway in cool to cold weather. Tail wind / headwind makes a huge difference driving on the plains.

I will be doing a 2200 mile road trip in July with cargo carrier and four passengers and I assume A/C on.

    Impressive gas mileage!

I WFH and only drive 5k per year—currently sitting at 18.1 mpg on the long-term. Without any freeway miles, Godspeed.

    Impressive gas mileage!

If I cared about MPGs I wouldn’t have bought an SQ5.

I do 10mph over the limit when cruising on the highway, 80mph around here. I’d rather save the time then a couple of bucks.

Most vehicles are geared to get their best MPG at ~55 mph and have seen 24-25 mpg at such speeds but that's torture. Most of my freeway driving is at 70-85 mph, and before tuning I'd get ~22 mpg and after tuning ~20-21 mpg. On my extended road trips (loaded up with bikes and gear) at 80-100 mph I get 16-17 mpg. My lifetime (52k miles at present) is 19.6 mph (tuned at 36k miles) with ~75% freeway driving.

NOTE: I drive 100% of the time with the transmission in S and drive mode = Dynamic.

Those of you with tunes, did you see your MPG go up or down?

When I tuned my A5 6mt 2.0L turbo I actually saw the average mpg go up.

my long term usual went up to 28mpg and I was deep into the 30's on highway cruising.
