2015 Q5 drl control module question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My left side DRL went out...did alot of reading and seems the most common issue is the CM. My question is this: anyone have actual experience using aftermarket units ? If so, which ones?

Before most go " you get what you pay for" and "oem only is the way to go"...I know. Looking for those that have used the aftermarket units for some feed back.

I searched around and didn't get much specifically so I'm asking. Thanks in advance!

Abbreviations or acronyms can be confusing and have more than one meaning. Easy to type, hard to decypher.

Once we know the meaning of the initials, we are then going to ask if you have a code reader or scanner and ask for the codes. A VCDS or similar full scan, if possible, would help narrow the options.

Sorry, looking for feed back on the LED Driving Running Lights (DRL) Specifically, the DRL control module (CM) Currently only using Carista. All other lights work as they should. This issue happened a few months ago, for about 2 days. After that , they worked fine. Seems the most common issue is the DLR control module. Left side part number (8R0-941-475-B). I don't mind buying OEM, but, if there's decent reviews on the aftermarket part, I'll buy those . I'd like to have it on hand, so when I pull this apart, and swap the left/ right modules to see if the problem switches to the left, I can replace it . Hopefully this makes more sense

I recently retrofitted a pair of face lift headlights and used aftermarket modules for DRL, xenons, etc... It's been 3 months so far and no issues at all. In my case I went with these ones for DRL: https://www.ebay.com/itm/264579668692

Good plan to swap modules and see if the problem follows the module I was hoping you could get a full VCDS scan. Maybe you can find someone with a spare unused VIN or an unlimited license. It would show you open circuits or shorts in wiring, voltage abnormalities and actual LED resistance, possible weak or roken ground connection as well as module functiion. That might save you from buying something you don't need.

Not needed to use up a VIN for VCDS scans. If a pop up says to use a VIN just dismiss it if only scanning. Only need to use a VIN to make actual changes (Coding, adaptations, service resets etc.).

Good to know. So, OP get it scanned, looking for those sensor details.

My only concern would be the colors matching. Whatever you go with you'll probably want to buy two, especially non-OEM. Valeo made the lights, not sure if they would be the manufacturer of the DRL module though. If you can find one from the manufacturer without an Audi logo it will certainly be more cost effective.

In reading this, is the DRL control module responsible for the DRL color? I have noticed that my 2016 Q5 DRLs have a yellow tinge and the intensity is not consistent. My wife’s Q3’s DRLs are a nice, bright, even, white color.

As the LED for the DRL wears out, it will change color over time. Replacing the module should get it back to normal. It's just a little LED light in the control module that shines through the acrylic tube in the headlight.

Any update on this? I just encountered the same problem on the passenger side DRL on my 15 SQ5. I’ve seen a German DIY video about replacing the CM but wanted to know if anyone here in the US has done it on their own.

If anyone has a part # for reference that would be great too thanks

That was only a week ago and looks like he said it'll be a few weeks before he gets anything. Are you looking for a part number for the modules?

The module is easy to replace, just need to pull the headlight out for access. Even if it can be done in the car you will thank yourself and your hands that you took the light out first.

If you have a part # that would be most helpful. I’m pretty sure I can handle the headlight removal DIY. I was originally going to replace the headlight assembly with a used OEM one but if it’s cheaper to order a new CM instead I’m all for it. Thanks!

    Right should be 8R0-941-476-B

    Left should be 8R0-941-475-B

Assuming this is of course facelift model.

Yes..I have a big update. Parts were supposed to be here the 20th. Come in today (9th). Took about 15 minutes to unplug harnesses and remove bumper. This I was kinda nervously doing. Nervous because I've read so many post of people saying they were scared of breaking something. Guys, bumper removal was EASY. tricky part was sliding the headlamp out. Got it out far enough to swap the module. Slid it back in, secured it with a bolt (dam sure didn't want it sliding out and hitting the ground. ) Plugged harness up to test. Only "hard" part was remembering which screws went where. Luckily I did not take apart the passenger side so I referenced that side alot. When dropping the bumper, you may need a second set of hands due to needing to unplug fog lamps. I can do a decent write up if needed. I'll post the seller I bought these from. Got the L & R for 60$.

Took about 10 minutes to get the bumper completely off. Pull the push pins on the top cover, 3 screws in each wheel well, screws across the front off the bottom engine cover, couple near the headlamp... Pull the bumper at the wheel well out a forward... It's been raining here and tomorrow is supposed to be rain. Good excuse to get those pics. You'll need an extra set of hands, or a way to support the bumper so you can disconnect fog lights. Also, once the top cover is off, there's 2 wire connects to disconnect. . .. hardest part was the pull on the bumper ..I didn't know how hard to pull so I was really cautious. .. this will be my first "official" write up so hopefully I don't miss anything ...short answer...bumper was rather easy and simple to remove.

Ok so me, this site, and photos aren't getting along . Anyone that needs help or a "walkthrough " on dropping the bumper and sliding the headlamp out, shoot me an email.... In the mean time I'll continue to try and get a good write up with photos posted

I have recently been trying to understand how the DRL work on the facelift Q5/SQ5

a couple years ago I turned up the brightness of my DRLs with OBD11, they currently work great. but im nervous that having them run at 100% may burn them out faster?

only started thinking about it because my buddies Q5 TDi DRLs are yellow compared to mine, his ae also at the normal 28% brightness.

so the light tubes inside the headlight are just tubes correct? no LEDs in them?
the only LEDs are the two in the module and that feeds light through the tubes?

has anyone confirmed that the yellowing of the DRL is from the tubes or the module?

replacing the module seems easy, pulling the lens off the headlight not as easy

maybe I should lower the brightness of mine. but it looks cool. I don't use them as daily running lights I keep them off. so really only using them at dark
