    2011 RS5 multiple fault codes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi guys,

Recently got a B8 RS5, this morning I was driving to work in auto at around 55mph under no acceleration and the dash board lit up.

I have got the emission control light, EPC and ESP lights on hard!

Fault messages of Stabilisation fault, parking brake malfunction, tire pressure fault, sport differential fault in that order.

I turned around and slowly drove home, driving under minimal load the car drives fine, if I try to accelerate hard the car does not want to Rev at all.

In neutral the engine revs freely

I have not got round to getting it anywhere to read the codes, has anyone had this before? I have tried to search but couldn’t find anything specific.

I have no faith in the local Audi dealership so any help would be massively appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ben

Could be several things unfortunately. Would need the code scan to begin to help

Didn’t get chance to get codes read today as work took priority 😞
Actually no idea when the battery was last replaced will check through the history

    Hi all,

So i got the codes read with a snap-on reader:

U11130 - Function limitation due to received malfunction value.

P055600 - Brake booster pressure sensor circuit range/performance.

    P213100 - Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch F circuit range/performance.

    P034100 - Camshaft position sensor circuit range/performance.

U040100 - Engine control unit implausible signal.

3700 - Control module for rear spoiler positioning- intermittent.

01314 - Engine control module read trouble codes - intermittent.

    01324 - 4-WD ECU - J492 read trouble codes - intermittent.

00473 - Control module for Elec park/hand brake (J540) read trouble codes - intermittent.

    03041 - Energy management active - intermittent.

The codes were cleared and nothing has come back up since but i am keen to understand any reasons they may have all come up?

The car had been stood for a week prior to the codes coming up so the battery being on its way out could be a reason potentially but i am new to these cars.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Ben

I'd agree with the others that the battery probably needs to be your first start. If you can, replace the battery as just replacing it will probably cause a few codes so get all codes cleared after replacement then drive it for a week or so. Sitting for a week on a weak battery can definitely be a problem. Even with a good battery if my car will be sitting for a week I put it on a battery tender.

The snap-on reader doesn't give a lot of data like VCDS would, but its definitely an electrical issue

    Hi mate,

I have had this exact same problem on my 2011 Limited Edition B8 RS5. It was a nightmare to diagnose the problem but we eventually got there with a simple fix.

On my car it was the 6 pin connectors that plug into the throttle bodies. Over time they become loose and the connection gets intermittently lost. Try this:

    1. disconnect and reconnect the 6 pin plugs from your throttle bodies (you'll need to remove the intake pipe - just the top section).
    2. turn your ignition on (you'll probably hear the throttle bodies clicking as they adjust) and clear all fault codes.
    3. Start the car - it's likely it will run fine without the fault codes, but the problem is likely to return.
    4. Run a throttle body adaptation as soon as you can.

If this helps, it's likely you'll need to splice in new connectors or get them re-pinned. Very cheap fix ($60). Do both at the same time as it's very hard to diagnose the exact culprit of the two.

Audi first diagnosed an issue with my throttle bodies at cost of $4000 (Australian) to repair. It worked for a few days because the disconnecting and connecting of the plugs made a better connection, but then it all returned. Next diagnosis was the connectors, and this fixed everything - You'd think they'd start wth the cheaper and simpler option first.

The stability control relies on the throttle inputs, so when the throttle bodies lose connection with the ECU it triggers the fault along with all the others on the same circuit that rely on the throttle inputs.

See how you go with that and I hope it helps.

    Hi all,

Sorry to bring this thread up again but having the same issues.

The car has a brand new battery and after around 15 mins of driving i get the following codes on carista:

    14351 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "F": Circuit Range/Performance

04698 - Function limitation due to received malfunction valve

    08448 - Invalid data received from ECM/PCM "A"

Any ideas would be gratefully received?

    Ben

Is your car stock or do you have an aftermarket tune? It would be good to see which module is throwing out which fault such as, is the 08448 fault coming from the Engine module, Transmission Module, Sport Diff...etc. Need a better fault log to really procede online but causes could be low voltage...Battery, new or older and how often is the car driven. Has it been sitting for a week and you just got these faults after the first drive after it's been sitting a while? Aftermarket tune? Throttle body cleaning might help if they have a lot of PCV buildup that can inhibit them from fully opening or closing. Is the 04698 fault actually supposed to be "Value" rather than "Valve"??
