    C7 A6 3.0T, Supercharger Whine

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello, I just recently picked up a 2012 A6 3.0T and would like to hear more supercharger whine, but I would like to keep the stock cold air set up. Is there something I can remove like the foam inside the intake tube? I also read the RS7 intake with the holes in the top of the box could also be an option. Any suggestions help, thanks.

Cut a hole in the bottom passenger side of the intake box. It will just pull air from behind the headlight.

Is sound really all that is for? I thought it had something to do with the harmonics in the charger.

that’s what I thought, i’ve been reading forums like crazy on here and have only heard it mentioned twice. one person said it was a direct fir, another person said cutting modifications had to be done.. do you know if it is direct plug and play with a 2012 A6 3.0T?

Also, try replacing the intake inlet hose with an aftermarket one, the stock one has baffling that reduces the supercharger whine.

You can adapt a RS7 intake, but I truly think they are overpriced for what they are, and you probably wouldn't hear much more whine. $300+ for a stock airbox seems overpriced. It would be cheaper to swiss cheese or cut a hole in the bottom of your airbox as I stated. I built my own for $100 bucks that places the filter right below the passenger headlight. Then you just pop that little grille out where the foglight would go and instant CAI. It is insanely loud as well.

The RS7 box can be found for less then $300 from Audi, no cutting , just drill it the hole plug on the bottom of the box for the recuit tube, or just get a breather filter. It’s a direct bolt on. I run mine with a silicon intake hose.

I did think about cutting a hole it it, but I believe i’ll need an intake anyways when I eventually go a stage 2 and I would assume the RS7 airbox will be what I need for more power, while also retaining the cold air snorkel.

So with the silicone hose and RS7, you can hear the whine pretty well? This seems like the best choice for what i’m looking for if I can hear the supercharger pretty good.

    nope, just sound.
On non-Audi's Eaton doesn't have that pad.
Will it make it significantly louder? Probably not, but Audi thought it would help quiet things for their target luxury market.

yep, didn't expect much of a difference with that...you want everyone else's suggestions of opening up the intake and/or removing the helmholtz resonator in the intake tube.

The supercharger I am porting didn't come with one. Weight reduction!

Oh, and seriously, just get an 034 hose and do this, you can't even see it when it is installed. Way cheaper than a RS7 airbox, makes noise, doesn't suck hot air, costs free 99, and it took me all of 2 minutes with a drill and a sawzall, so you can do it right now. You can use a saw, a dremel on low, or whatever. You could even cover it with some mesh if you wanted to be real fancy. I would have cut a hole in it like the RS7 Airbox, but then I would have had to ruin the K&N sticker. Then take the money you would have spent on an overpriced airbox and put it toward a tune, or a used supercharger to port or something.

is that the cage with the foam pad? if so I tried to just pull it out already, but my big ass hands already barely fit in the tube haha… does it just come off or does it need to be cut out? I just got the car a week ago so I don’t want to dump a whole lotta money into it right now but more slowly piecing the build together but that supercharger deserves to be heard…

i’m gonna try this as you are the second person in this thread to recommend and it seems to work, I don’t like the whole cutting idea but I mean if I don’t see it i think i’ll be okay haha. But whenever i do go stage 2 i will probably opt for an RS7 box or a similar cold air intake setup.

Just replace the intake tube with an aftermarket silicone one...
