    C7 A6 Roof Rack?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just moved out to the mountains and looking at finding a roof rack for my 2014 A6.

A lot of the posts I found are hit or miss on whether they are still available - so figured I would post an update looking for recommendations (links very much appreciated).

Mostly looking to haul skis/boards - but the option for a carrier or bike rack in the future would be nice.

I have a new in box set of OEM carrier bars with storage bag. I can send some pics later today. What state are you in?

I have a full Thule setup with the aero/whisper bars. Along with a Thule fat cat ski rack. Everything is almost new

Thule is the way to go if you want to leave it on for long periods of time. SeaSucker is great for occasional use since it's a suction cup system and easy to put on/take off.

That Inno rack picture above is pretty nice looking also.

Yakima makes the fat cat. It's the best looking ski rack because it's low profile but it also felt a little flimsy when it was open... not that anyone should ever be driving around with the ski rack opened up.

Thanks for the input - definitely something I am looking to leave on - at least for the season (or longer if I add bikes).

You are correct. I've had many racks. I have the Thule snowpack L. Holds up to 6 sets of skis

Yeah I had the same setup you mentioned with Thule whisper bars/roof rack and the Yakima fat cat 6. It worked great when I had it. Something else to consider, the low-profile roof bars AND low profile ski rack meant that it wasn't tall enough to mount my snowboard upside down like I prefer to do. The bindings would touch the roof.

My purpose (being weekend trips once or twice a month) just didn't call for a rack that was difficult to install/remove and fixed to the roof...The A6/S6/RS6 are super easy to install Thule rack systems but the frameless windows on the A7/S7/RS7 makes these racks a pain in the ass to install and a little stressful if you care about your paint. lol Audi dropped the ball big time on the rack mounting design for 7's.

The answer is always somewhere in between brands. Now I use a yakima rack with a thule ski rack but it's a totally different application that mounts to the spare tire of my jeep. lol

Yea I've had issues in the past with both my look pivot bindings and snowboard binding with the lo pro racks. Want to protect the roof. I love the setup, but I fly to ski the days and keeping a rack on daily is unnecessary to me. It is super easy to install on a A/S6 tho!
