Which fuse to disable the exhaust valves?

I’m over it. Lubed them this morning and they’re back to squeaking again this afternoon. Done with it. Which fuse do I pull? Thanks

Unplug them in the open position and secure the ends to prevent any water damage. You’ll throw some soft codes but no CEL.

I have been aware of unplugging them. I am curious has anyone tried fuse on the S4? I'm assuming no since every time anyone ask this on this B9 S4 forum everyone yells just unplug them. It works on the B9 RS5/S5. I figured if it worked on the S5 it could on the S4. The fuse diagram I found for the S4 is different than the S5, but that does not mean it would not work.

I’ll take look today for the fuse. The design of the Milltek exhaust does not lend it self kindly to getting hands in to where the valves are. It’s likely I will have to drop the resonators to unplug.

Yeah, A4/S4 wiring diagram says it's fuse 4 in ST1 in fuse holder B in fuse and relay carrier SR1 (wtf Audi, so the bank of fuses at the bottom of the left A-pillar) for the V6 petrol vehicles.

Curious, the valves have a single control line from the ECM on the 3.0T versions, but dual control lines from the ECM on the 2.9T versions.

But unpowered, what is the failsafe position of the valves? Open or closed, or left swinging freely?

Yeah, wondering if the valve fuse also powers other things that simply can’t be turned off. Might be just going the unplug route at this point. Default position of the valves is open when unplugged

They default to open. That's why they rattle for a bit on startup until they close.

Supposedly using the valve delete simulator plugs will prevent throwing soft codes. There is a user on the forums selling them.

Per the seller: Plug the simulator plugs into the wiring harness where you would normally plug the stock one and this will eliminate the soft error code that appears when the valve is removed.

Nothing else on that fuse according to the wiring diagram.

Can you share the info? The soft codes don't bother me but having the codes cleared would be nice for when I have to bring the car in for the ever so amazing California smog check lol

Small resistor built in. The valves are 3 wire, power, ground, and switched power from the control module. It checks to see if the circuit is complete by passing a small current through the circuit first, if not it sets a code. A small resistor simulates the presence of the valve motor there and makes the PCM happy.

Thanks for the explanation. Do they just plug into the harness and hang or the harness and the valves?

I ordered the same today actually before even reading this, can't wait to get them.

Does anyone know the soft code to look out for to ensure they truly work?

I receive three faults codes. All are related to the Exhaust Pressure Control Valve, codes are P0477, P0475, and P049F. I may have something else going on though.

So I got them installed in like 15 mins. Pass side super easy, driver side I used a small thin screw driver to push the gray plastic tab forward then squeezed it off.

Well the valves are open. Drove for about 10 miles and scanned the car with OBD11, no codes.

So will scan the car rest of the week to see, unless the code can't be seen with OBD11.

I also have the 034 motorsports X pipe on order..

So after driving a little while today I have noticed that the car is idling higher than normal, at lights and in park. It is 1 line under 1000rpms. Kinda strange. I tired it in comfort, dynamic, and individual. I scanned the car again and find no faults.

This was with it being 95-100 out today and with the AC on. But still seems high. I will check on it for the next couple days.

Has anyone else experienced this with a aftermarket exhaust and the valve simulators?

Jimmy, very interesting you noted this. I have the exact same experience. Noticed it when I was rolling through a parking lot at under 5mph. Kinda strange behavior. Love the sound with all the valves open. The car sounds so aggressive. I’m not sure the extra minor idle is enough for me to remove them.

It may be an effect of the higher ambient temperature rather than the valve simulator. I do not have any simulators installed, but after a hot day in the sun, mine will idle around 1k rpm for the first 5-10 minutes, then settle back to normal idle rpm. My guess is that the AC imposes a high load on the engine after startup, especially on hot days where the AC is on full blast.

You could probably trial and see if the high idle still persists on a cooler day or leaving the car under a covered spot.

If I have my car in dynamic S it always idles at 950 with the a/c on or off. I do see the idle up there when the a/c is cranked up, even without the car in S mode. Probably normal with the high outside temperatures.

Thanks guys, makes me feel a bit better after installing these. Maybe a placebo effect that I didn’t notice before. Been hot as balls up here in the Sierras.

Same thing happened to me today once I just flashed my car back to the OEM file. When I first started it was idling normal, but once I drove around in the upper 90s it idles around 900 rpms. Doesn't matter what driving mode I'm in.

Mine is idling normal in both dynamic D and S mode.
