No, but APR just rolled out some upgraded ones for $30 a piece though.

Denso is great quality. The only brand I use for certain components like o2 sensors.

Supposedly APR is working on coils for the 4.0T platform.. Time will tell...

The question I have is this.. APR, for example, posts a pretty graph showing their coils put out 10% more electricity than stock coils.. But what does this really translate to? Do you get any gains in engine power output at all? Or is this just more advertising to convince you they are really better and will improve your ride somehow?

Well, his sig says he sold his V8 and now has an A6. But to answer your question, I don't know. There are rare instances where some more spark provides more power when the OE system isn't adequate. Are we in that boat? I doubt it. If some folks are having spark blow out problems, this may help. I haven't read about a whole lot of ignition related problems. When I do new coils, I'll buy these because they're only 5 bucks more a piece. I look at them as kind of an OE plus, if it helps me fine, if it doesn't, no big deal type of scenario. It isn't like they are trying to sell us $100 a pop coils though, they are still cheaper than the parts store. It is hard to tell what percentage of snake oil, and what percentage of actual upgrade these are until people start trying them, specifically higher power ones.

I do agree however that Denso tends to make good electronics.

I would agree with your statements.

If the 30+ year old ignition system on a Honda B series engine that uses a distributor and coil is good enough for 700+hp cars. I would posit that our factory ignition system is substantially better than that, so it is unlikely to have any dramatic effect.

As stated, if buying through FCP Euro you maintain their warranty and they are only a marginal increase in cost it would seem more of a "why not?" at that point.

Yeah, if only 5 bucks over retail I'd drop a huge 40 bucks to use them on my 4.0T

I am running those exact same coils on my car and they've been running smooth since I put them in! Look and install like OEM. For me, it was well worth it for the lifetime replacement. That being said, If FCP starts stocking the APR ones, I'll probably switch over (FCP stocks APR coils for GTIs and a few other cars so hopefully they start carrying them for the C7s).

Very true, the car I was referencing getting power from the ignition was a early 80s bmw, lol. I didn't hit the limit of the factory ignition on my last build until I tripled the power output. I am not seeing many 900hp 3.0Ts running around, so I would say we're probably safe, but I could be wrong.

Well, they are running 1000HP in EU on the 4.0, seems like stock coils do just fine.

Is the issue that the coil produces more output energy for the same dwell time, or that the coil can reach the desired output energy with less dwell time?

Thanks for the answers. I should've clarified, it's for the 3.0t A6. Pulled misfire codes on cylinder 5. FCP is down the street from me so I'm going with the denso. First time changing coilpacks so I didn't know if its one "you get what you pay for" parts.
