APR Ignition Coils are Here! Plug and Play, Multiple Colors, 10% More Spark Energy!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

    Details Here

APR Ignition Coils are designed to be a direct plug-and-play upgrade to factory coils, and provide greater energy output, ensuring a stronger and more consistent spark. The commonplace replacement of factory ignition coils with those taken from the higher output Audi R8 is popularly believed to provide greater energy output. However, testing proves that they are no more powerful than the factory coils that are found on other engines. APR Ignition Coils increase energy output by up to 10% over stock. They are a direct upgrade or replacement, and come with a unique red, blue, or grey housing!

    Features
    • Up to 10% more energy output than stock
    • Red housing with APR Logo
    • True upgrade, not just aesthetic
    • Direct plug-and-play

    US Application Guide

PLEASE NOTE - If your factory ignition coils look physically different, other than color, these upgrades are not compatible.

The 4.0T uses a unique coil not shared by other platforms. We have something in the works.

Id love to see side by side Dyno comparisons to see if any HP can be made just by having a better spark. I suspect in the high HP builds this is necessary

Figures. More standard coil for R8 and Lamborghini but unique for S6!

Yeah, I doubt you will see any gains. I could be wrong. On a highly modded motor maybe, stage 2 or less, probably not. Maybe better throttle response or driveability. For 30 bucks a coil, I would try them if I needed some coils.

The 4.0T coil is closely related to the 2015+ A3/S3 coil where as the 3.0T (C7 A6) uses a pencil style coil. The 4.0T however is shaped a little differently than the S3 so it doesn't cross over.

Please explain why this matters. The graph may be interpreted as either achieving increased energy output for the same dwell time, or shorter dwell time required to achieve a set level of energy output. Folk comment that the cars run well with the OEM coils. Is the ECU somehow aware of the difference and adjusts performance accordingly in some measurable way (I think SAAB did something clever along these lines)? I can fantasize many possible benefits (like design engineer bragging rights) but don't know which if any are real. Thanks!

More spark energy give you a stronger spark and more complete burn. This can help clear up misfires and allow for a wider gap (which may be necessary depending on your setup). They come in multiple colors for cosmetic reasons, and are priced appropriate making them an excellent upgrade when your factory ones fail.

Thanks for explaining. So these might allow the use of different spark plugs that require more energy, or to increase the gap on existing plugs, maybe reduce fouling of plugs, maybe allow smoother/more even flow of combustion through the cylinder. Another question: the header on your list says "US Application Guide". Will the forthcoming S6 coil be usable by the AZ members (for instance in Canada) with ROW cars?

Yes. I just make the application guide for the USA as that's what our website application guide dataset is working off of. It doesn't have ROW listings as they are different country to country.

Hell, even if it’s a wash performance wise, the red looks great under the hood.
