    Buying used - previously tuned.

Hello everyone. I am seriously considering purchasing a TTRS. More specifically, a 2019 TTRS that had been previously tuned and flashed back to stock.

The car is a certified Audi pre-owned.
The previous tune was a unitronic tune I believe. If something major happened and required warranty work, Audi would check the ECU history and deny my warranty due to previous tune, correct?
Service advisor is saying they do not detect a code for it currently.

    Thoughts?

    JMAN,
If the car is classified as a CPO, even though the dealer is aware of the tune, then presumably the dealer will stand behind the warranty.
However, there’s no guarantee of this. And, if you buy the car and, for some reason, have to have major power train service done by another dealer, will the other dealer back the warranty? It seems pretty chancy to me. I think I would only buy the car if I knew I could cover a high dollar repair out of pocket. And, if I can do that, I’m probably in a position to buy new.

I’d think if the flash count at time of or before CPO is the same when something needs to be covered under CPO, then you have data to support it was this way when you bought it.

When owners are turning their Audis in, I could have sworn there is legal language in the document that their trade-in doesn’t have any tampered equipment they are concealing…so truly if an Audi dealer CPOs something that they shouldn’t, instead of trying to screw over the new owner by denying warranty work, they should go after the original owner or just eat it as a cost of business.

Assuming this is the car you must have, I would have them write into the purchase agreement they are aware the car was tuned and flashed back to stock, despite that issue, they are providing a full CPO warranty as though it never happened and will 100% stand behind their warranty in the event of a engine failure/issue. Can't hurt to ask. Now, my personal opinion - pass on that car. If it was "tuned" you can also be pretty sure the PO "drove" it.

I won’t repeat what others said. With that, UNITRONIC is a fantastic company who stand by their work. I’ve reached out to them in emergency situations and they’ve always helped. IF anything does happen to the vehicle - reach out to them and they will be more than helpful and patient. Just 2cents from another TTRS owner.

Only if your motor is current and popular. As someone who worked with on custom 1.8t stuff... Once they had their ball rolling on the new MK6+ 2.0t they progressively got harder and harder to get with for my lowly 1.8t. And I was a booth car for them at H2Oi in 2013...

Secondly, the people above talking about CPO and all that..

There's a thread in the car lounge on Vortex covering that exact situation where someone bought a CPO stock car, and may have been a TT-RS (I can't quite remember) and then needed some work.. Well, turns out it was flashed and then re-flashed prior to CPO, and I don't think I need to tell you anymore other than it did not end well...

Yep. So talk them down from the cpo price addition if you really want that car because they won’t cover it.
