    PLM v2 heat exchanger?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

I upgraded to a dual pulley tune, and i need a heat exchanger. I was looking at Urotunings website when i came across the PLM v2 exhcanger. Its priced well and appears to be a quad pass system. I haven't been able to find much information about it. Can anyone offer feedback? Ive done some searches on the forum but the most ive seen is a thread offering one for sale.

I'm going to be in the market for a HX soon, and checked this one out along with the Merc, and would be interested in any user comments on the product as well. FWICS, it looks like you need to buy the "install kit" for an additional $ 50, just to get the crash bar mounting brackets and bolts, is that correct? Also, one of the reviewers said he had to cut the brackets for them fit behind the crash bar.

my understanding is that its not worth buying without the install gear . I have a good bit of rewards credit with Urotuning (vendor of choice usually) So im hoping this is a good option.

Yeah, I'm likely going to just wait and get the Mercracing model for about the same all in price, especially since I am not in any hurry to get it right now.

Has anyone tried the ECS offering? It looks like a pretty complete kit for the price. Even comes with SC bleeder screws.

I installed the PLM with brackets last year and had 0 issues. No cutting, no trimming, looked great, fit well, and it simply works. Good luck doing any better with a $1,000 offering from some vendors.

Is the plm v2 the same clone has mercs newest HX?
The newest merc HX suppose to be larger.

Merc V2 and unless that reviewer was talking about the V2 needing cutting, I never did. Install went smoothly and fits awesome.

I installed the PLM V2 HX about a month ago. The only issue I had was clearance from the end of the mounting brackets being too close and potentially rubbing against the rad. I simply grabbed a dremmel and a solid cutting disc and filed it down about a quarter of an inch. Ordering without the install kit is pointless and it’s only an extra $50. Save yourself some time and just order everything at once. My 2 cents.

Just get the Merc HX and be done. Cheaper, superb design and quality. The brackets and bolts to mount it are included and fit perfectly. The separate hose and clamp kit is nice and handy, but you can get the hose and clamps for less at any auto parts store. I went ahead and got the Merc hose kit, too, just because I live way out in the country and didn't want to make a trip into town. There are several "how to" threads here with photos and some YouTube videos.

On a scale of 1-10, tbe difficulty is maybe a 3. You do need to put the car in service position, or at least remove the front bumper. Best time to do this is when installing the crank pulley. Do both at the same time while in service position.

the plm is supposedly (and looks like) a direct knockoff of the $350 old version merc heat exchanger that comes with all the install brackets already. the new $450 merc hx has added cooling capacity added volume and some other stuff they can't talk about supposedly but i can't imagine what other than maybe end tank redesign with cfd testing or baffling to more evenly distribute the water across the fins. but who knows. if you have a b8.5 you can just pull your stock one out and mount up the merc one, with the latest gen merc i think both your stock hosed bolt right up as well, with the first gen that's like the plm you'll need like 2-3' of 3/4 heater hoze and a 3/4 90 degree fitting is all i think.

I'm also curious what other upgrades the new merc hx was done to it. Other than having more volume etc.

Yeah the bracket touches the radiator, i left it touching the radiator because i didn't feel it really puts any pressure, the screws that go into the crashbar is what really had to be cut as they were too long lol
