    RS3 springs on an S3?

    Hello everyone,

I’m looking to make the S3 a little more track friendly. I have a non-mag ride version.

The set up is actually pretty comfy and fun but 50mph turns the body roll comes in and you have to fight it a bit so I’m hoping to tighten up the suspension.

Stock rates on a golf R:
    195 lbs/in front
    245 lbs/in rear

Stock on an RS3 (non mag)
    326 lbs/inch front
    404 lbs/inch rear

Audi and the tuning companies are reluctant to share data so take these with a grain of salt. But APR uses the same springs for the RS3 and the S3. They would not disclose the spring rate to me.

    Neuspeed;
    260 lbs/inch front
    404 lbs/inch rear

So I suppose the question is: will RS3 springs physically fit? And are the dampers too soft a setting to work with springs that stiff? I’m not savvy enough to answer this question.

I’m not really into ‘stance’ lowering. The RS3 and S3 share the same ride height as far as I can tell and So I’m trying to avoid options that have a more visual goal than performance aspect. Really I’d avoid lowering at all if I could.

    Thoughts and experience?

Owned both cars, yes they fit, rear spring is the same, front is identical in terms of dimensions slightly stiffer spring rate. If you where looking to upgrade without lowering it to much , go with the Eibach Pro Kit springs (APRs are made by Eibach btw) . If you really want the best (imho) set and forget upgrade its the Bilstein B12 Kit, comes with Bilstein Sport dampers and Eibach pro-kit springs, there is not a better street kit out there for the money (~$750). https://www.tirerack.com/suspension/...8&autoModClar= Or just google, Bilstein 46-261212. Cheers

Thanks I’ll definitely check out your recommendations

Now when you say it’s the same are you referring to mag ride or no mag ride?

I'm running the Neuspeed RS3 springs on my S3.
    Neuspeed RS3: Front 330 lbs/in, Rear 390 lbs/in Lowering: Front 0.71" (18mm), Rear 0.51" (13mm)

I'm happy with the results with these; both function and cosmetic.

Nice, did you measure at all to see if the lowering was still as advertised with the 5cyl vs the 4 ?

I did not. However, the visual looks pretty even between front and rear gap with these springs.
With the stock springs, the front gap was greater than the rear gap; now they look pretty even.
I also have 034 sway bars, which further helped reduce body roll.

    Wow guys.
    Thanks for discussing this mod.
I have the 7R that has the stock OEM springs and dampers (DCC)
Everything els has been changed. Bushings and sway bars front and rear.
Now I feel that the springs are a bit soft for the track. I sometimes bottoming out the front outer corner if corner speed is highe and I hit the curbs!

But I am not one of those people that like to lower the car. I like/need stock ride height...

So what do you you guys think. Would a RS3 8V springs be a good solution? By reading above they are quite harder in spring rate?

Let me know what you think. I have maybe a sett of used springs I could get...
    Thanks

    Thanks everyone for your contributions.

I do have the 034 rear sway and it’s excellent. The car is nearly neutral on turn in.

When doing big higher speed sweeping corners is where i feel stiffer springs are still needed. I can’t say for sure but it seems Audi uses a 2 rate system and when you are going high speed, say 50 mph and turning you’ll overload and start to roll too far off the inside. It could be my BMW raised mind not used to the low bolstered S seats. The BMWs are much better at keeping you still during cornering.

Anyone have an RS3 to give their opinion on the spring rate?

Also. Do the golf R snd Audi S3 have the same set up? I sort of assumed VW and Ingolstadt would be tuning the suspension individually. I’d be surprised if they came up with the same results.

Audi uses the smooth Ingolstadt roads and logs many hours on the ring for their suspension.
VW works in a different area of Germany.

RS3 springs differ based on whether the car has mag ride or not. Non-mag ride springs (dynamic package) are slightly lower and stiffer than the mag ride springs.

    Hi guys.
Just had to replace the rear springs on my 7R due to breakage...

The RS3 8v spring is slightly thicker but also shorter! 20230309_205735.jpg

034 publishes their spring rates and are the ones I chose. Just remember that the higher the relative spring rate front to rear, the greater the understeer which is already terminal on these cars. I went with 034 springs (perfect ride height imo and good street/track compromise) and one of the stiffest rear bars (APR) plus a ton of other changes.
