Left signal light and rear brake light bulb replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

I have a 2013 Audi S6 and getting a faulty bulb on the dashboard for either left signal or rear brake light. Has anyone replaced the bulbs before? Is there a step by step tutorial or video on how to do it?

As far as I’m aware, I don’t think there is a video. I remember seeing a video of a guy retrofitting C7.5 brake lights but it was sped up and chopped. If I were you I’d just go to those, they’re around $400-$500

There are no bulbs, you need to replace the whole assembly.

If it's the turn signal or brake lights, this is correct (lights are non-replaceable LEDs). The only owner replaceable bulbs in the rear are the rear "fog light" and the back up lights when in reverse gear. Presumably as these lights are infrequently used, some Audi engineer decided to save a little money on LEDs.

I have had a similar issue. mine is absolutely weather (rain) related.

I had to replace the groments on the trunk lid,(forward corners) but still have the issue.

I have the new light, but haven't changed it yet.

Dash warning light goes on when it rains, and off as soon as it dries out.

Here is another post on the topic. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...light-went-out

I think it just started happening after I did a good wash on my car just recently? Where do you get the grommets? I guess I have to wait til the car fully dries out? Hopefully the issue goes away.

I’m getting the fault warning now about once per month, then it goes away the next time I start the vehicle. There’s never any actual taillight failure, just the fault warning on my dash. I presume this is an indication of fluctuating resistance, which suggests a weak or failing connection rather than a failure of the taillight assembly itself.

I got them at the dealer, they are about the size of a quarter, I think cost only about $1. one of mine was completely torn so I had assumed it was/is/caused my problem.

Both of my inner taillights have failed. Each time, it started with a dash fault warning (once a month) that progressively got more frequent until it came up nearly every time I started the car. At first, the tail light was perfect, worked absolutely fine even when the warning was on the dash. Eventually, however, the issue started to actually pop up (in both cases it was the LED section that turns on when the headlights are on). Sometimes it would flicker, others it was noticeably dimmer than when new, and eventually it would just turn off completely.

Please remind me what is the true solution. Is it replacing the taillight alone, refurbishing the harness connection for better contact, replacing grommets, or all of the above?

If you notice the gromments are ripped, torn, damaged, etc. then you could try replacing that, but generally speaking, the only way to fix these taillights is to replace the whole tail light. I replaced mine with a used set. I got my right one off a salvage car on eBay for like $175 and my left one for the cost of shipping from a forum member who swapped their OEM lights for aftermarket ones. I have had the eBay one on for over a year now, and the fault has not returned and it works perfectly. I just installed the other one last week, and I have had no issues with faults or lights since.

Just for context, dealer quoted me like $1000 to replace ONE of my inner tail light assemblies. If you want a brand new one, there are plenty of OEM wholesale sites online where you can buy the part ~30% off. Install is extremely easy, it takes like 15 minutes.

    Got it. Thanks.

And confirming that the replacement part is the inner tail light assembly only.

Rockauto sells literally the OEM part (Valeo) without an Audi badge for $220-$260 depending on which one you need. No reason to buy used.

Whichever is broken. It could be any of the 4 assemblies.

Your factory original ones will say Valeo on them and have a sticker elsewhere with the Audi Ring Logo. At least mine did.

That is why I did not feel bad about buying the Valeo units elsewhere.
