    Wireless CarPlay

I was slightly annoyed that a brand new 2020 car did not have wireless CarPlay and required plugging in. Plugging in my phone with a cable is not hard but I rarely made time to do it on short drives.

I recently found a simple adapter on Amazon to make the CarPlay work wirelessly. I ordered it and it works surprisingly well. Super easy to setup and my phone connects to the CarPlay (without plugging in) automatically everytime I start the car.

Here is the link to the one I got: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FG2XRBP...p_mob_ap_share

Hopefully this info is helpful to others that want to avoid plugging their phones in for CarPlay.

    Wireless CarPlay

I have seen these around, seems cool is there any lag?

My 2018 does not have wireless charging so I’d have to retrofit that in first.

I've got the https://cplay2air.com/ and it's "just OK" IMO. I wouldn't say there's any lag in the audio....but, it does get choppy sometimes. Also, it doesn't always connect...which causes me to unplug and re-plug the cplay2air device to reset it...which defeats the entire purpose.

Personally, I leave the cplay2air plugged in as a default option when I hop in the car. If I'm going anywhere more than 20 minutes away, I just pull it and plug my phone in directly.

Nope. Sounds exactly the same from what I can tell. Sound quality is very good so far.

Nope. No noticeable lag which surprised me a bit. I haven’t had any issues with it connecting or having any lag so far. Had it for a few weeks now.

I have/had this one too for about a year, then about a month or two ago I was driving home from a short road trip (2/3 hours) and it just seemed to die. Now my phone doesnt connect to it at all, but the two little lights on it still come on when it's plugged in. I've reached out to their support before when I needed assistance with updating the device, but the language barrier seems to be too thick. I may try this amazon option since it is at least through Prime, I can get it faster than the one from carplay2air

I have wireless carplay in my other car via an aftermarket head unit and really appreciate the convenience.

I'd love to hear what your experiences are with the Carlinkit after about a month. Like others have pointed out, the cpaly2air one works but is not 100% solid, most experience issues that require resetting it occasionally.

I'm tempted, but concerned with audio lag. OP which model did you get? There are a few. I have a 2020 RS3 as well.

    I have this version for my 2019 CarlinKit 2.0 Wireless CarPlay Adapter dongle for Audi Factory Wired CarPlay Cars, Compatible with Audi A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 Q7 Q2 R8 Q5 MMI 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021, Convert Wired to Wireless CarPlay https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085VVCLKR...ZB65CPHRM3S9R8

No audio lag. Sometimes takes a second to react or get going. Nothing bad, just sometimes not instant like a cable.

Quality is exactly the same I’d say 95% of the time. Then every now and then audio quality gets crappy, notice cracking or fuzziness.

Overall it works great and is very convenient. Worst case you just unplug it and plug it back in to “reset” it and back to working fine.

to follow up on my previous post. i was going to order one yesterday since they are on sale currently. i wanted to make sure my old one was dead, i plugged it back into my car and it connected to my phone and car no problem and started playing my music. very strange that it seemed to die that day a couple of months ago.

I’ve had the carlinkit installed for about a month now. I’d say there is the occasional audio hiccup, like maybe once every 30 min or so you might hear a 1/4 sec pause in music. Also I’d say there is about a 1/2 delay in inputs/navigation. But all the steering wheel inputs work as intended. I would recommend as an Apple CarPlay solution.

I purchased the one the OP posted as it has a removable usb cable which will be easier to place in the console pocket IMO and can replace the cable if it breaks. This is also on prime deal at ~$98.

I’ll see if it works well and can always return if it doesn’t.

I've been using the carlinkit for a few months now. It can take a few seconds to initially connect in the morning. But hopping in and out of the car after that it usually connects a lot faster.

Works as well as wired carplay, but that's not 100% perfect either. No audio lag or anything like that though. And no ones complained on phone calls.

tossed mine in the center console and velcro sticker'd it to the side so it's not rattling around in there.

To everyone just getting one. I updated mine(two firmware versions) and it’s definitely working better now. Starts up and connects much quicker as well as seems snappier moving around the menu.

FWIW I disabled the low data/power mode on the WiFi connection when it’s connected. That’s probably slowing it down, as it sends the data over WiFi.
