Electromechanical Steering Unit Warranty

Welp looks like our prayers have been answered, I just got a letter from AoA that states our electronic steering is covered up to 10yrs or 125k miles now. This covers "2011-2016 Model Year Audi B8 (A4, A4 Allroad, A5, S5, RS5, Q5 & SQ5), C7 (A6, S6, A7, RS7) & D4 (A8, S8) Vehicles". I know some people have said in very cold temps/climates theres has failed and has costed a boat load to get fixed. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up and look out for their letter as well

That is great to hear. Thanks for sharing. Can you write them a letter about the sun roof rattle ? Like not today but whenever you get time..

I'm in the same boat. I put my Aero bars on too and I swear that makes the creaking worse.

It does. The letter also comes with a another piece of paper that is a form to fill out for reimbursement if you already did it out of warranty and paid out of pocket...

I'm looking at the actual second letter I'm talking about and all it says is you need proof of the repair but i don't see anywhere that it says you needed to buy it brand new or even from Audi. It just talks about that you need to prove your expense if you had one related to this specific issue..... so seems like you have a decent shot and I would definitely submit if you have the evidence

You should be, a while back when VW extended coverage for a bunch of 2.0T water pumps, a friend got 3 of them reimbursed that he did himself.

No, this is for a failure of the whole steering rack, relatively easy job, but the rack is expensive.

Squeaky wheel usually means a boot needs to be lubricated and would not count as a failure of the rack.

I got my letter the other day. I had mine replaced a couple years ago due to malfunction. Think it was $2k+ so Ill be looking for that invoice and filling out that reimbursement form for sure.

I got one sent by Audi Canada for my old A4 which I no longer own, and it states that we could possibly get reimbursed for past repairs. I just hope that the intermediate steering shaft replacement twice within 3 years falls under this recall. First time it was covered under factory warranty, but the 2nd time I paid out of pocket $950 CAD. The letter talks about the ES warning light coming on as an indicator of the issue, but in both cases no light came on, the steering just started seizing until it felt dangerous. The explanation given to me at the time was Audi decided to skip on putting rubber over the U joint, hence the rust forming in that area causing the steering to eventually seize on all B8.

The car had been tuned and was promptly TD1 after my wife took it in to get fixed. I ended up going to a respected indy in the area and it all worked out - but just FYI for some of you guys who may be tuned!

I'm TD1 myself; can you share how much the fix was out of pocket?

For people wondering if the intermediate steering shaft failure falls under this recall, it does not! Confirmed by Audi Canada today.
