    Best "budget" coilovers

I bought a B5 S4 that needs good cosmetic refresh and I am tackling things one by one. It's getting new race seats, new paint on the hood and roof, window tint, wheels, 18Z brakes, exhaust, and no B5 is complete unless it's lowered. I am doing everything with budget in mind this time, unlike with my previous B5 where I was throwing money on the best of the best and probably ended up well over $30k into. I picked up this car as a toy project car to bring back to how I like it and drive it for fun so I am not getting another set of KW V3 coilovers for this, that's for sure. So, if you had up to $1k to spend on coilovers which would you choose, preferably based on personal experience:

    ST - $779
    Solo-Werks S1 - $499
    Megan Racing Euro I Series - $899
    Raceland - $419
    Bilstein B14 - $995
    Vogtland - $815

I am personally leaning towards the STs since I had a set on a B8 S4 I had a few years ago and I had no problems with them. Some of these I have never had or heard of but I haven't been in the B5 game for over 8 years now so there are certainly some new options that come out.

I'm sure I'll get flamed but I had Graceland better coilover on my b5 back in the day with no complaints. "They're too bouncy" no you're too low.

It's to the point where all the problems just run together in a spider web of disappointment and mush.

Do you have links to any places that have them for less than $700? I am only coming up with $729+ sites.

I was planning on doing BC BR series, my H/Rs are shot.... I just read that you better get them set where you want them because the adjustment threads freeze up/corrode within a year.

Any coil over collars will sieze due to corrosion. Thats why you put anti seize on the treads and you wont have that problem.

I run Vogtland’s for 5 years now, no complaints.

My buddy runs the STs and they are dam good too.

    Can’t go wrong either way...

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. Very helpful. I am planning on waiting until 4th of July to see if there will be any sales. I have a long list of things I need to do on the car so there is plenty to keep me busy. I think I will most likely go with ST, especially since I had them on my B8 S4.

I run the BCs and they are prone to seizing like any other coil over. Best way to combat it that I’ve found is to put anti seize on the threads.

If you go with the BC it’s worth spending a little extra for the swift springs.
