DAB retrofit to MMI 3G no Bose

I've been able to get my hands on a cheap OEM (edited) dab receiver on ebay which may or may not work (apparently been exposed to the elements).

I've been reading up on what's needed to retrofit to 3g non B&O(edited) and see I need an antenna amplifier and fakra cable.

I checked my rear drivers c pillar and there is no current antenna amplifier unit solderd to the window element. Found that surprising as I thought I'd need that for standard FM but guess there is the fin antenna for that?

So when upgrading to dab do I just run the fakra wire from the new receiver, under the boot to the driver side and up to the c pillar where I fit the antenna amplifier and solder the wires to the points on the window?

And I obviously will need CP removal as well.

@Smac770 (or anyone else who can help)
I've installed antenna booster part no. 8K9035225B and soldered the red, yellow and black wires to the rear right (driver's side UK) quarter window with the DAB antenna foil. Black at the top, yellow in the middle and red at the bottom (soldering those points was a total PITA!).
Fakra cable runs to the DAB radio unit.

I have DAB radio working but I have a fault - 02877 - Digital Radio Antenna - Open Circuit
I need CP removed as well.

I've checked the soldering a few times and confident the wires are on ok so wondering where the open circuit could be or how i could test it?

Could you confirm via your usual parts knowledge/research that the booster I have installed (8K9035225B) is indeed ok for my S4 2010 avant? From what i can see that part is compatible with QV3 for Digital Radio Reception.
Also have i missed something, is there another antenna or booster i should have retrofitted?

Thanks as always for your help.

I guess I was confused about your original post about what you meant for "my hands on a cheap dab receiver on ebay". Is this some 3rd party receiver you plan to input to the Audi system via aux or such? Or do you mean a DAB equipped radio unit for MMI 3G, replacing your previous radio unit. So I presume part number 4F0 035 061... or 4G0 035 061...? And by "no Bose", I presume you mean "not B&O". So you have either the 4-speaker basic, 8-speaker basic plus, or 10-speaker standard sound system.

I note a comment about the DAB tuner in the MMI 3G radio unit: "The DAB tuner is encoded for the country of use, because there are various intermediate frequency bands between channels that can be can be used. If the DAB tuner is not correctly encoded, then reception will be impaired."
I don't know if that is of any relevance to you.

    We can see from: https://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+a4...6/0/035-35015/
that it appears there are four amplifier units, 21, 22, 23, and 24.

21, R111, antenna amp 2, right d-pillar, will be 8K9 035 225 N (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-A4-S...-/303139813108), only if DAB equipped. This supports the black DAB connection to the radio.

22, R112, antenna amp 3, left c-pillar, will be 8K9 035 225 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/174495911072). This supports the yellow AM/FM1 connection to the radio and the gray CLS connection to the J393. If TV equipped, then it will instead be revision C (https://archiwum.allegro.pl/oferta/w...636442666.html). C also supports the TV3 connection to R78 tv tuner.

23, R24, antenna amp 1, upper left of rear lid, will be 8K9 035 225 A (https://www.ebay.com/itm/372651304960). This supports the white FM2 connection to the radio. If TV equipped, then it will instead be revision E (https://www.ebay.de/itm/353321132593). E also supports the TV2 connection to the R78 tv tuner.

24, R113, antenna amp 4, right c-pillar, will be 8K9 035 225 J (no pics, I presume it looks like G but only the green plug), only if TV equipped. This supports the green TV1 connection to the R78 tv tuner. (the B and G rev stuff is for MMI 2G era, FM3/TV3).

So it looks like you added "B", which is the MMI 2G switching diversity FM tuning FM3 connection. You need N.

Great ok thanks so much. Sorry I really confused things. The receiver unit is an OEM dab version 4G0035061D. I've coded it for non B&O (not Bose). I have the 10 speaker system with no external amp.

I'll find the N version of the booster and give that a try.

Because I live in a good dab area (London) I already see and hear all the stations on the MMI without the antenna booster but I'm sure the second I drive out into the country it will need it.

    Thanks will report back.
