Tuning Options for the A6 Allroad?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
With our new A6 Allroad soon to be delivered I’ve been researching tuning options. My performance tune experience to this point has almost exclusively been via APR tunes (had a brief encounter with GIAC in the early 2000s on the last A6 Allroad iteration with the 2.7T engine). As we all know, tunes like the one APR sells involve re-writing portions of the ECU to achieve improved performance. Higher HP and Torque along with things like improve accelerator tip in.

Nobody has an APR style tune available yet for the C8 allroad as far as I can tell. Which leaves us with ABT and JB4 styles. My question with these are:
    1. Install: is this something a shop has to do or could I make the necessary connections? Seems like I aught to be able to make all the connections myself. Is there fore to it than that?
    2. Beyond HP and torque, do these mod types also improve other things like the accelerator tip delay, for example.
    3. Anyone know if JB4 make a C8 Allroad version?

    Cheers!

The Group 7 unit is shared on all platforms that run the 3.0T and there have been no compatibility issues even with the Porsches that run this motor. It can be found here: https://burgertuning.com/collections...audi-s4-s5-sq5

The same unit can also be tested on your RS5 if you want. It has Vin recognition capability and does back ground changes when needed.

I have never even heard of this tuner before (though I am new to turning audis).

Can anyone chime in if they have used this before and what kind of improvement they say in their 2019+ A6's specifically?

I've used them in my BMW days prior to owning an A6. Pretty cool piggy-back options for a tune with phone app capabilities. Never had an issue in 4+ years of owning it

I ended up ordering an ABT unit. I seem to have had a long relationship with Audis and the "safest" option, though most expensive. Its on order so won't be able to report back for a few weeks.

After some lengthy research I ordered the JB4 unit. The support for the product has been amazing, and I don't even have it yet. Power numbers are similar to the ABT unit and it is a piggy back unit too for easy removal if I need to go to the dealership.

I'll give a review once it arrives and I install it. Please to the same for the ABT unit, as I looked and looked and only found 2-3 people who had purchased one. The JB4 has a huge forum of users, reliability info, and performance numbers.

@cocopup96, you got this right? https://burgertuning.com/products/jb...7fc6302a&_ss=r

Do they talk about numbers for the A6? Pretty cool they get 3.6s 0-60 on the S4.

will do. Current ETA for the ABT is shipping this coming week. Apparently they had a delay sourcing the mounting bracket...

Yes, I got that unit with the bluetooth cell adapter. The install was very easy, but the ODBII harness routing took a bit.

I will say that initially I felt ZERO power increase. I put my car on map 3 w/ 92 octane (as suggested by George) and felt nothing. Like literally nothing...

I checked the connections, rechecked them, and verified the map and felt zero power increases. In fact it felt a tad slower.

I put the car into dynamic sport and drove for 10 miles. After a complete warm up the car seemed a "bit" faster but nothing really ground breaking. To be honest I was really underwhelmed.

However, this weekend I drove for over 200 miles. Something happened at about mile 50 and the car came to life. From a standing start the car is a hair faster, but after 3000 rpm is throws me back in my seat like nothing before. 0-60 is way faster (I don't have a way to log this, just a butt dyno), but the 45-100 is way WAY faster.

I think maybe the JB4 computer had set in or build some data, but that is pure speculation. All I can say for certain are the shifts are significantly faster / firmer and the top end is a lot stronger.

Gas mileage dropped from 29 to 22 mpg, but that may be more about how I have been driving it rather than the map.

George quoted a "conservative" 60+ whp and I would say he is right on. MTM quotes 90, but at the crank. I would guess these are very comparative.

Stumbled across CPA Chiptuning while researching the A6 Allroad transmission and OBDEleven tweaks (gear number in DIS). Anyone heard of them?
