    Obd eleven + torque pro

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi there,

I've two questions I hope you could help me with.
I looked around but it's not clear to me whether OBD eleven can be used as a "standard" obd2 module to pair with torque pro android app.

Also, and if yes, can OBD eleven be left plugged in continuously in the port or will it be draining the battery when the car is off?
I know some OBD modules like MX+ have a sleep mode but I haven't seen anything like that with OBD11.

    Thank you.

From my experience on the second part, I left my OBDeleven in my S6 for 3 days by accident and my battery died. When you plug it into the port a red ring goes around it to Indicate that it’s connected. I would just unplug it every time you’re done using it

Somehow I have left it plugged in for a month without starting the car and it was fine, I am on a new battery though

Mine stays plugged in. My car also seldom sits more than a day.

I don't know what you mean by "standard obd2" device? It reads stored codes, and allows access to certain vehicle functions. It has a super slow rate for datalogging though, I can't vouch for it there. I had to buy a ross tech cable anyways to be able to get meaningful numbers as far as that goes.

OBDEleven is nice to have when you are out and about and I like the mobile capability. If I had it to do over again, I would have taken the $100 I spent on OBDEleven, the $200 I spent on a rosstech cable, and spent the $400 on the mobile rosstech one. Now I have to drag my laptop with me when I want to datalog.

You cannot use obd11 with torque pro. You'll need a separate obd device such as OBDLinkLX/MX or a cheap generic obd reader if you prefer.

Thank you. It appears that there is not a single device that 1 fits all.
I got the MX+ but it doesn't want to pair with RSNAV and I'd rather avoid the entire Android auto thing.

Cheap generic ones do pair with RSNAV, but they don't have a "sleep mode". I got one from BAFX but in the morning it was warm to the touch by just staying plugged in overnight in the OBD2 port, so my guess is battery drain is a concern with my short commute.

It's a bit of a shame that obd 11 being so expensive doesn't perform also simple functions of the $15 generic obd2 reader and doesn't have a sleep mode like $80+ readers.

Thank you all for feedback. No obd11 and no torque pro for me I guess.

Obdeleven does seem to have a small drain. But if your battery dies after leaving just that plugged in for a week, or you're consistently seeing the car complain about low battery after a few minutes with the car off in accessory mode, it's time to get a new battery. These cars do not seem to like dying batteries - replacing mine solved several other problems.

Yeah, it is annoying about the obd11 not being able to work as an obd reader with other things... I have obdlinkmx to use with torque pro... It has a much better polling rate than those el cheapo adapters... If you're just reading codes, the cheapies will do... But if you're using torque for logging or gauges, you want a fast polling adapter. Why it wont pair with RSNav is pretty jacked up... This thing pairs with at least a half dozen phones/tablets/laptops that ive used over the years.

OK, success, I got it to pair.

So apparently a lot of "Chinese" head units don't like spaces in bluetooth broadcasted name.
There is a way to change MX+ broadcast name. I changed it to OBDLink and RSNAV connected without issues.

So Torque Pro is working now but their OBDlink Android app is doing something weird.
Once bluetooth connection is established it looks like it's trying to call something. This pop up loads up, stays on top and the only way to get rid of it is to reboot RSNAV.

Any idea what is it doing?
