    2021 A6 Allroad Transmission Question

Hello and good day fellow enthusiasts,

I tried searching but could not find anything related to my question below, so apologies in advanced if my search skills are lacking.

I've been excited by the A6 All Road returning to the US. I recently watched two reviews and thought the first reviewer made a mistake about mentioning that the transmission paired to the 3.0T is a 7 speed DCT.

Then I watched another review and the reviewer stated the same thing. I browsed Audiusa.com and the technical specifications confirms this.

Does anyone know of the reason why the B9/B9.5 S4, S5, SQ5 and other EA839 V6 equipped Audi models would be paired to the ZF 8speed but then the A6 all road gets a 7speed DCT?

It was a surprise to me since Audi has been recently moving away from the DCTs in any vehicle with a V6 or larger motor.

speculation here, but my bet as I had the DCT in my B9 Allroad as well as my C8 is that it comes down to towing... A number of the EU models seem to have the zf 8 and dealer options for towing

It seems strange to me that the Q7 which tows about 7700lbs and everything else with the EA839 motor including the S4 has a minimal tow rating (if any at all) uses the ZF 8 speed and the A6 All Road seems to be the only 3.0T current gen Audi to use a DCT.

The last 6 cylinder, forced induction Audis to use DCTs were the B8.5s S4s, S5s and the 4.0TT C7.5 S6s and S7s.

It's because Audi Allroad uses quattro ultra tehnology now - it's not torsen based anymore for Allroads. That's way it doesn't get ZF but DSG instead.

Wow, I usually keep up with the evolution of these things but it's the first time I'm hearing of ultra technology quattro. For a second I thought you were trolling me but its actually a thing! You learn something every day.
