2022 RS5 Flat Bottom Steering Wheel Availability?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    HI,

I am looking to place an custom order on 2022 RS5 Sportback and want to really get a flat bottom steering wheel. but i noticed on order guide for 2022 RS5 standard features that it stated 3 spoke heated steering wheel, which leads me to believe that it will be a round steering wheel. another option is I can select the RS design package and get alcantara steering wheel, but it doesn't state if it's flat bottom.

Have any of you heard from any reliable source that if flat bottom steering wheel is available on 2022 RS5 MY? i know in 2021 RS5 MY launch edition included flat bottom steering wheel.

    Thanks,
    -p

Ask them for the PR code for the steering wheel on your prospective build and you'll know exactly what the wheel is. 1XP is round, 2PF is flat bottom.

They never come that way. The heated option always changes the steering wheel to round in the USA.

Looks like the possible B9 facelift RS wheels are (MY21 rev > MY22 rev):
FD > GG - round wheel, round airbag, leather, heatable
FE > GH - flat bottom wheel, round airbag, leather
FF > GJ - flat bottom wheel, round airbag, alcantara
FK > GK - round wheel, trapezoid airbag, perforated leather, heatable
FL > GL - round wheel, trapezoid airbag, alcantara

The trapezoid airbag wheels (GK, GL) are those compatible with active lane assist (hands on detection equipped).
Both the MY21 Launch Edition packages would have included the FF wheel. Unclear if the MY22 Design packages will carry on with the GJ wheel (essentially, the OP's question).
It's amazing Audi outright refuses to build a flat bottom with heating.
Is alcantara not compatible with heating? Looking at the FL/GL wheel. Maybe just an omission on the catalog entry. It doesn't appear this wheel was available in US MY21 configs (nor the FD or FE wheels?).

my dealer says no cars will have that option in the US. probably a supply not feasibility issue.

also- still no info on options prices/

You mean "on US market MY22 RS5 models" I presume.

That's so strange, I wonder why? I just ordered a 2022 RS5 and you can still get the alcantara flat bottom wheel if you go with the RS Design Interior package...you only lose on the wheel being heated (you still get the advanced drivers assistance with stop and go, but I don't know if that includes hands on detection). This is in the Canadian order guide anyways.

From the Audi Canada Site though, you cannot choose the Flat Bottom Steering Wheel (part of Interior design package) if you try want Advanced Driver Assistance Package (Advanced Driver Assistance Package includes:

Adaptive cruise control with stop and go
    Audi active lane assist
    Pre-sense front
    Traffic congestion assist
    Traffic sign recognition)

That's where the Capacitive Touch Steering Wheel is used as part of the active lane assist.

Looks like they changed this for the 2022 models.

That’s for the 2021 build sheet.

Yes you can order RS design package and get the flat bottom but loose advance driver package (which is optional)

The 2022 build sheet has the advance in standard options

They still have the RS design option with flat bottom steering wheel but no where in the notes etc does it say you loose the advance drivers package ….so I’m confused since it used the capacity touch …maybe they went back the the 2018 19 as you could use either steering wheel it went by turning wheel a bit (exaggeration )

Unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it, I don't think the flat bottom will be an option. As soon as you add the premium package, this adds hands on detection now. You can still get the RS Design Interior package but it will come with a round alcantara steering wheel with the different hexagonal airbag cover instead of the round). However now in order to select the RS Interior Design package you have to select the Premium package. If you go on Audi Germany's build site they already have the 2022 models up.

I was just on Audi Moncton website as they have build and price for the 2022 and selected RS interior options with no warnings or flags about drivers assistance not being available.

Also have the build sheet (paper coy)for the 2021 and 2022 where the 2021 clearly states if you get RS interior package that you can’t get with drivers assistant same holds true on website for 2021. The 2022 doesn’t say anywhere with selecting the RS interior package you lose drivers assistance. Now confirmed with website that no flags come up selecting RS interior package.

So unless the paper copy build sheet and the Audi Moncton website are flawed some how??

Only way to know for sure when the 2022 comes available on Audi of Canada and Audi US to build and price.

I'm not saying you lose the drivers assistance functions, I'm saying that you just don't get a flat bottom steering wheel even as an option for 2022 now, since the parts of the drivers assistance package now comes standard. I have the 2022 build sheet as well. So for the first time, it will be a round alcantara wheel vs the previous flat bottom alcantara wheel.

Ok I get it now lol I just realized it doesn’t say flat bottom it just says alcantara.

Well at least it’s heated lol.

Makes sense now that the premium package comes with hands on detection which is new in package this year.

I still can’t believe they just don’t make a flat bottom heated like other companies can do, or make it capacity touch. You think the part the owner/driver touches/interfaces with the entire time in vehicle that would have most options.

Aftermarket steering wheels will be stupid expensive now if they need to be capacitive touch.

Exactly, now that the hands on detection is in the premium pack, the wheel has to be round not flat. It's crazy though, for 2022 they are giving the RS6/7 a new flat bottom, alcantara wheel, that HAS the hands on detection sensors! Why wouldn't they just use that!?

Here is the only option we are getting...it's the same steering wheel (round only) either in leather, or in alcantara like this if you get the RS Interior Design package...annoying.
