    Legit S-Line?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently bought a 2014 A4 B8.5 and the listing said it had some type of S-Line trim. Since I am relatively newer in buying Audis I thought everything looked fine as the badging and trim was where it should be. However, I noticed that the steering wheel was 4 spoke compared to the 3 spoke. I heard that you can have S-Line with the sport suspension package which would keep the 4-spoke, but I just want to make sure. What is the best way I can check if I actually have some part of the S-Line package?

Our '14 A4q Premium Plus S-Line has build code WQB "Sports package for NAR", which includes build code 1XW "Leather-wrapped multifunction sports steering wheel". The WQB code isn't on the PR sticker in the trunk wheel well (that came from erwin.audiusa.com), but the 1XW code is. Check there. Also, if you don't have the original window sticker for your VIN, look HERE. I'm thinking now that S-Line trim was part of the Premium Plus option in the NAR market.

2014 US A4, Premium+ and Prestige had S-line exterior as standard: bumpers, fender badges, door sills with S-line, side sill blades. Premium could option this with the S-line style package.

Optional for the Prestige trim was the S-line interior package, code PQX. This required the sport package, code WQB, which was optional on the Premium+ and Prestige. The problem with these order guide package codes are they are ordering codes, not build codes. So they are not on the PR codes list for your VIN. What PR codes are incorporated into a package code? Wouldn't we like to know, but the wheel is an easy guess. WQB included the 3-spoke round wheel (1XW for manual, 1XX with paddles for automatic). PQX included the 3-spoke flat bottom wheel (2PF for manual, 2PK with paddles for automatic) with the S-line badge at the bottom.

So every US 2014 P+ and Prestige without the sport package has s-line on the fender and door sill but just a 4-spoke steering wheel.

You can determine the trim level from the fourth character in the VIN.

I believe I have the regular premium trim as my vin's 4th letter is an A.

Sadly it seems that the website doesn't recognize my vin. However, I'll check my wheel well codes today. Where would be the best website to decode the sticker?

I put my codes into the PR decoder and wasn't able to find anything on S-Line trims. So then I put my vin into the decoder and all it says for trim level is the base premium. I feel as if things are conflicting since the PR sticker says I have a tiptronic transmission while the vin decoder says I have a multitronic transmission. Just to double-check my vin is WAUAFAFL3EN029929 and the codes are here. https://imgur.com/a/fwRaKYp

Multitronic CVT transmission was only on fwd cars (without Quattro)

If you have the 4-spoke steering wheel and non-sport seats, then your car has S-Line appearance which includes the S-line bumpers front & rear, side blades, and gloss black grill with chrome trim as well as the S-Line branded door sills.

However, you do not have "full S-line" or the sport pkg that nets you the upgraded seats, 3-spoke steering wheel, and suspension.

Okay, that makes sense regarding the S-line package. Also sadly I am without Quattro so there is a possibility of having the Multitronic. However, the PR codes say I have a Tiptronic while the vin says I have a Multitronic so now I am just confused on what I actually have.

4th char = A, for a 2014 Audi A4, would be A4 Premium, so front wheel drive, CVT transmission, Premium trim level. So if you have the s-line bumpers and badges and door sills and HID headlamps and LED taillamps, then you'd have the S-line style package. The other two options for the Premium were cold weather package (heated front seats, fold down rear seats) and MMI navigation (navigation system, MMI controls around the shifter, color screen on the instrument cluster).

The PR codes sticker provided says nothing about having Tiptronic. I wouldn't read too much into the outdated text for 0G7. A reason for the truncated PR codes sticker? The engine and transmission codes would have been in the top section which was omitted. The upper section should have had a transmission code, which would have mapped to the type 0AW CVT.

Thank you! Yeah, I must have been looking at the older 0G7 instead.

You have Multitronic, that was the only transmission offered with these cars with fwd in the US.

If you have the CVT you should just start making plans to get rid of the car now.

I mean if he's not looking for performance it's honestly a nice transmission. My family had one for quite a while and we loved it, you just gotta stay on top of the fluid changes.

Fluid changes prolong the life but I have never seen a CVT of any mfg last much beyond 80k with them typically being done around 100k. The physics of how they work just doesn't allow for much reliability beyond that. Once the internal steel belts stretch and wear out, its time for a new one. Unlike a timing belt/chain, the trans is basically the end of the car unless you have the mechanical skills to replace it with a used one. I've seen Audi charge upwards of 7-8k for one of these multitronics on cars that werent worth half that.

I agree the design of the transmission isn't really conducive to long term reliability, a traditional automatic gearbox is likely to last longer. However, we had one from 8k miles to 108k and it was dead reliable, and that car is still on the road 2 years later with the new owner. The unit in the B8s is vastly improved compared to what was in B6/7 so they are generally more reliable (though still not without fault). Generally speaking though, from what I've seen the B8's CVT seems to be one of the better ones out there.

That said I wouldn't recommend someone buy one over a ZF6/8 or 6MT car, but I don't think it's a catastrophic mistake to do so like it was in the B6/7 days.

That's impressive. Nissan CVT's are notorious for exploding under 100k. lol People come to me with more of those broken then anything else.

I’m thinking about purchasing this 2015 Quattro and noticed it has S-Line badging but no steering wheel or head rest badging..

    Was wondering the same thing..

    Any help is much appreciated!

If you look up the 2015 Audi order guide on the Internet, you'll see like the 2014 answer in this thread, all 2015 A4 sedans included the S-line exterior bits. But unlike 2014, 2015 had no interior S-line packaging at all. Sport package gave you the 3-spoke round, Sport package + Black Optic package gave you the 3-spoke flat bottom. Exclusive line interior had contrast stitching and bi-color leather and piano black inlays.

That picture has a beige interior, no drive select, and has B&O and wood trim. So it's either a Premium Plus with the technology package and B&O system and wood inlays, or a Prestige with wood inlays. No sport package, no black optic package, no exclusive line interior, no driver assist package.

Thanks for the info I didn’t know if the 2015’s were different, this is great info and I appreciate it!

I’m still trying to figure out what that cover that’s missing on the front bumper is but I’ll leave that for another thread to not muddy this one. We test drive it on Saturday so we will see how that goes..

I think that interior color combo is a pretty good looking combo
