Wrecked car ecu and motor swap into donor body???

My 2010 Audi A4 was tboned so I bought a donnor body. I thought that I would be able to move motor, ecu and cluster and it would work. It is in safe mode and original key is not recognized ....the donor key is recognized but just cranks and no start plus it is in safe mode. What did I do wrong?

The immobilizer is in the J393 control module. So the chassis is the one that is going to remember the key it accepts.

The ECM is part of the immobilizer group. If you had left the chassis's original ECM in there (assuming the chassis's engine and your engine were both CAE), you wouldn't have any issue with the immobilizer.

    Requirement for Starting Engine
In addition to the requirements for Terminal 15 ON, the following requirements must be met in order to start the engine:
♦ The comfort system central control module -J393- must be coded under diagnosis address “05 - access/start authorization”.
♦ The engine control module -J623- must be adapted to the immobilizer.
♦ The engine control module 2 -J624- must be adapted to the immobilizer when it is installed.
♦ DTC P1570 engine control module locked may not be entered in an engine control module DTC memory.

The cluster is not part of the immobilizer group, but it very well may go into component protection since it's not the one adapted to the J533 in the chassis. Dealership visit or time with a shop or someone with the resources.

Smac770 thanks for the reply....I have all the components from the wrecked car....at this time what would be the step by step procedure to get it out of safe mode?

You could either put the ECM back in the working car that was in the working car, if you have it. This of course assumes the working car's associated ECM is for a CAEx engine and not a CPMx engine; a CPMx ECM is no good for your CAEx engine. You might still have a component protection issue with the instrument cluster you moved over, but at least you should be able to start the car.
Or you could put all the modules related to the immobilizer and component protection from the wrecked car into the working car. Lot of work and assumes the old and new car are identical on a features level.
Or you could take it to the dealership and have them adapt the mismatched ECM to the working car, and clear the component protection if present on the instrument cluster. Unless the mileage on the working car's original instrument cluster is way higher than yours, I'd leave it in there and not bother with that aspect.

The wrecked car ran and drove fine....the new body had a bad ecu....I removed motor ecu cluster and key fob control from wrecked car and transplanted into new body. Problem I believe is that I started with just the ecu and tried to start it fired then died and went into safe mode. I then swapped cluster ....still in safe mode. All this time with new body key....I then realized I had wrecked ecu and cluster but trying to use new body key. I tried wrecked car key but did not turn on ignition. So then I found the key fob control module and moved it over. At that point I had wreced ecu, cluster, keyfob module and key in new body....key did not turn on ignition but did unlock car. Tried new body key and did not turn ignition on either.
