Question Different versions of the 3.2 v6?

    Hey there!

I'm hoping someone can teach me a little more about the 3.2 v6's.

First some background: I was recently changing my spark plugs on my 2010 A5 (3.2L ~55k mi) and found a little oil in the well, so my first thought was the valve cover gasket. I started doing some more research and found a bunch of threads regarding gasket issues with the 3.2 in the C6 line where the spark plug/solenoid gasket is underneath the cam girdle. So I started getting worried I'd be pulling my cam shafts to change all the gaskets, but it looks like for the A5 3.2 everything is connected and in one layer right beneath the valve cover (phew ).

So, I'm wondering what the difference between the engines is? (Aside from the gaskets) I was assuming they used the same 3.2 V6 across all models of similar years, is that incorrect? Or, did they change the 3.2L at some point?

I'm new to the 4 rings life so I'm trying to get myself educated. Thanks!

Best way to find out is look at the engine code.

For the 3.0 just before your 3.2, there was the AVK & BGN. As far as I know, they were both the same between A4 & A6 barring some wiring and vacuum/fuel line routing.
