Thinking about getting a power washer

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am thinking about getting a power washer and foam cannon for cleaning cars and cleaning around the house. Cleaning My deck and pool area should be a lot easier with a power washer.

I was thinking about this power washer because it gets great reviews. I don’t need anything huge or to the point it can strip rust.

Sun Joe SPX3000 2030 Max PSI 1.76 GPM 14.5-Amp Electric High Pressure Washer, Cleans Cars/Fences/Patios https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CPGMUXW...ing=UTF8&psc=1

Also I was thinking about this foam cannon.

Tool Daily Foam Cannon with 1/4 Inch Quick Connector, 1 Liter, 5 Pressure Washer Nozzle Tips https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HC898GM...ing=UTF8&psc=1

Why this one? Not really sure other it seems to get top reviews at Amazon.

If anyone has other recommendations please post them up.

Check out Obsessed Garage on YouTube. Very extensive testing of all power washers on the market. I personally went with the Karcher K1700 Cube, awesome unit, but stock accessories (wand and hose) are lacking, as with most stock units. That’s your first area of upgrades.

I have that sun joe. It’s solid and gets the job done. I would just get a stubby nozzle since the large one is cumbersome

Another +1 to Obsessed Garage, and even if you don't buy your pressure washer from him, you're far better off buying his accessories, hose, fittings and trigger/wand/foam cannon from him, as he's cleverly assembled the best and most convenient lists of parts that actually last and go much farther than trying to shop for the same equivalents on Amazon.

The recent reviews on the ACTIVE VE52 washer seem impressive for a light-duty, inexpensive pressure washer for a car-- far better than Sun Joe. I'm still holding out for a deal on a proper triplex pump with TSS, like the AR630-TSS, but the AR Blue Clean AR610 seems to be a decent middle ground and will remain compatible with a 15A household circuit.

I have the Sun Joe SPX you are looking at. It gets the job done. I use it to power wash the fences, soffits and windows. I use a windows concentrate in one tank and simple green in the other for dirty jobs.

I pressure wash the curbs at the street and all my patio stones to keep them looking new.

I use a foam cannon from Chemical Guys and numerous soaps depending on the time of year (Mr Pink for the first clean of the summer) and then citrus wash and gloss unless I’m applying Hydr02.

I used to pressure wash the dirt off the driveway but I bought an EGO 650 CFM blower to dry the car without touching it.

The leaf blower has enough power to small blow stones away without the mess of water.

Cleaning has never been easier. Every homeowner should have a pressure washer and a powerful blower to make short work of tasks.

The blower gets all the water out of every nook and cranny on the car, like S-Line honeycomb, the water that hides under the window trim, the water that hides behind the mirror etc.

No touching after a wax or Hydr02 means no visible scratches and a very shiny car.

I have the Sun Joe SPX4000. Been using it since 2017 on multiple cars. Works very well. I typically use the low pressure setting on the car and high setting on everything else.

You get what you pay for with Sun Joe. I had an electric unit from them that started leaking this year. Tore it apart to discover a non serviceable part had broken. To the trash.

Bought a Husqvarna gas unit from Costco.

Both would work the same for your car, but if plan on using the power washer for concrete or siding I'd step up to a gas powered unit. 3200 psi with the Husqvarna can do things my 2200 psi Sun Joe could never do.

Thinking about getting a power washer

Just bought this with the griots foam blaster. Love it and short wash gun. My intent with this setup is for car detailing specifically. It’s small, portable, and doesn’t require gas (obviously). It may be capable for other light duty tasks but if you want to pressure wash your house, decks, etc you’ll want to break out the gas washer

I'd go Chemical Guys for all your foam cannon needs - as far as the Power Washer I have a Honda and it's a BEAST! with everything in life, you get what you pay for

I have the Sunjoe SPX3500. It works great for car but is weak compared to gas. We will see how long it lasts. When I use my Adam's Polishes foam cannon with it. I doesn't really do a good job foaming up I assume due to its lack of powah

Thanks for the info guys. Still leaning towards the SunJoe but I need to check its flow and make sure its adequate for the foam cannon. Seems a few reviews are specific for minimum flow with a cannon. Father in law has a big 3,000 psi washer I can borrow for the bigger jobs, just looking for simple use out of this one. His tends to chew his deck a bit if your not careful with the stream.

Recently a Kärcher power washer in our garage started to have some hickups and wasn’t functioning properly. Nobody knows if it has ever been maintained or serviced during it’s life time so we gave it a little TLC. Just basic oil change, teardown, cleaning bits and it now functions again properly apart from a little leak. The said washer is from the year 1988 and built in West-Germany. Man those things were built to last and against anything the Warsaw Pact could through at them. To fix the leak, I think we need to find some gaskets from the museum of technology or something.

Not really helpful on your search for a new power washer but wanted to share. :)

Sunjoe SPX3000 will power that foam gun perfectly fine.
For even denser foam you can upgrade to a 1.1mm orifice; plenty of options on Amazon, etc

1000% it will do it. Most of the videos that fail a the foam cannon on any decent washer is for 3 reasons:

    1. Wrong soap/not enough soap
    2. Didn't put hot water in the cannon
    3. Didn't SLOWLY tilt the container back and forth to mix the water and soap.

I paint the car with foam and let it drag all the surface dirt off which is going to take 5 plus minutes. I changed the orifice size because it was cheap to do and I don't think it made a difference. For what the washer costs, you can't go wrong. Don't store it outside in the winter without removing the water from it if you live in a cold area because that is how you'll break it, when the water freezes unless your prep the machine.

Would I want a gas for more power? Sure. But in between my quiet EGO mower and the quiet Sun Joe, I can work early Sunday morning cleaning the car and mowing the lawn. This leaves the rest of the day to have a nap in front of the offset smoker while the pork shoulder or brisket is cooking.

    Thanks for this info.

And sometime soon I will be picking your smoking brain about the pork shoulder and brisket, we just got a Traeger pellet smoker.

I keep my Traeger in between the stick burner and vertical bullet.

When the weather turns to windy and rainy, I use the Traeger with a cover over it.

The stick burner is king for flavor with certain meats but you can’t go far. The Traeger is king with chicken, sausages, baked beans, unattended pulled pork cooking sessions, bacon wrapped asparagus, atomic Buffalo turds, wings, smoked pork tenderloin and more.

If it’s Saturday or Sunday and the car and house exterior is clean and the lawn is mowed, people know that I’m home and magically drop by. They smell the Traeger or stick burner and know good food is coming.

Gotta get back to the track this year. Still need a HX and a trans tune. Spent all my money on investments so I might just be on the sidelines.
