I just changed my oil over the weekend. This was oil change #2 for the vehicle, and it was surprisingly easy.
Here's a video that shows how to do the change on the B9 3.0T:

I bought a vacuum pump on amazon for $65. The filter was $12, and I ordered that on Amazon after hitting up a couple auto parts shops that didn't have it, and calling around to a few more. None seemed to carry it.
I went with Castrol EDGE and paid about $65, I think, but it looks like I could have gotten a better deal if I had shopped around a little more. I bought one 5-quart and three 1-quart containers at the auto parts shop. Amazon sells a 5-quart for $25, so I guess you could get the oil for about $40 per change.
Here are links to the items I bought on Amazon, but I'll say the vacuum pump didn't seem like the most sturdy construction — it worked fine, just felt a little flimsy. There are others with a little higher price, but might be a bit better quality.

Aside from these items, all you need is a pliers, a funnel, some paper towels, a 32mm socket with driver and a flathead screwdriver for the filter o-ring.
So I spent about $150 this time, but now that I have the pump, I should be able to do new oil and filter for about $65. The Audi dealership I went to for the first change in Denver charged $100.
All in all, I enjoyed doing it myself and wanted to get the vacuum so I can do more regular, lower-mileage changes. Like others here, going 10k miles on the same oil just makes me a little unnerved, especially when I get close to the 10k. I've been used to 3-5k changes for so long. For me, it was less about saving money, and more about being able to do it myself at lower-mileage intervals and when it's convenient for me.
