Looks like a square piece of metal inserted into our rear differential, does not make any sense to me:

and then there is something mysterious on ECS page:

It's just like those "phantom grip" things from the early 2000s more commonly referred to as phantom slip. I'm sure you can find their track record documented online

It's to the point where all the problems just run together in a spider web of disappointment and mush.

Looks like snake oil, to me.

It's simply a spring-loaded unit put between the spiders to preload them against the case. There's no clutches involved. It's kind of like the old trick to add shims to preload the spiders so tight that it has more of a tendency to not slip, but make no mistake... there will be significant wear when things do.

Now, if they had packaged this with a shorter set of spider gears and a friction disk between the case and spiders, it would have greater success.

It's "better" than a Lincoln Locker, I suppose.

    YMMV.

Thank you for the link. It does look like repackaged old trick that is too good to be true.

    How about this baby:

LSD's use a clutch. They have limited slip. It's in the name.

This is a $30 metal block marked up to $400 that locks the diff.
Upgraded diffs are JHM Helical, Quaife, Peloquin, etc.
Locking the diff does not allow any slip, so tires will wear out during turns by not moving different speeds
Lockers are used on trucks off road in dirt where there is loose traction to let the tire slip

Usually when people make the decision to butcher their car and solidify their diff, they spend no money and use a welder to zap a couple spots inside.
Not spend $400 on two Legos.

    This is retarded

I’ve looking into this in the past and agree with this the most.

The guy in the video has clearly shown it does work and does what you want. Two tire fire, donuts, drift, etc.. The big con is without the clutches you will get premature wear, how premature doesn’t sound like anyone really knows, but it will happen.

I would think if you could put a high powered earth magnet on the bottom of the diff to collect metal shavings you’d have less problems over time. But non the less you’d still get the extra wear from no clutches.

Two pieces of steel rubbing against gears, sounds like crude little clutch :-)
