Question [Need Help] Should I get a B9 S4 or wait for the B10 S4?

Hi Fellow Audi Drivers! As you can tell I just created my Audizine account but I've been scrolling through the forums as a guest for a while now and let me say, everyone, is so friendly here! I just have trouble deciding what to do, I want an Audi S4 and i was thinking about going to my nearby Audi dealership and say "screw it" and buy a new 2021 S4. But the only thing that's holding me back on it is the rumors about the 2022 B10 S4. Any suggestions? Also If i got the 2021 S4 I was just going to do simple modifications like a APR stage 1 tune and wheels. Any advice would help! thank you

Wouldn't 2022 still be a B9.5? I don't think the refresh is happening that soon. The B9.5 was just introduced in 2020 so going by historic patters, typically 3 years, the B10 wouldn't be until 2023.

I can't see 2022 being much different than 2021 tbh.

MY22 would be starting production this month, normally. I highly doubt MY22 will be anything but the same B9.5 as MY21.
Far more likely and consistent that the B10 would be announced later this year, start production next year, and come to the US as a MY23.

    B6 - four years (02-05)
    B7 - three years (06-08)
    B8.0 - four years (09-12)
    B8.5 - four years (13-16)
    B9.0 - three years (17-19)
    B9.5 - two years (20-21) ? doubtful

B5 was 98-02 so 4 years there. You're a year early on your b6 range.

Not gonna be full electric anytime soon but you will see added 48v E-Assist systems on everything in the next 5 years.

Are you planning on keeping the car forever? If you're like most people and trade through new cars every few years, get one now and enjoy it, then get the upgrade model in 3 years if you like it. I have no regrets so far on my '21, I kinda bought it on an impulse because it was a good deal and I had been wanting something fun and still kinda luxury-ish, and I think it fits the bill nicely. Mine is a 3 year low mile lease though, so it won't be getting heavily modded or worn out.

MY02 here was definitely B6. Was looking at a '02 3.0 quattro as well as the '02 TL in May '02, but went with the just released '03 G35 instead. A4 was nice, but just too small and most expensive. youtu.be/8vtVViGyCnQ

    B5 157 - 96-97
    B5 219 - 98-99
    B5 224 - 99-01
    B6 - four years 02-05
    ...

Not sure why two different part catalogs for "B5.0", as it appears 224 is the "B5.5" facelift. But B5 years here are 96-01, so 6 years for it. The B4 in the 90's preceding the B5 was called the Audi 90 here.

Audi also is NOT spending engineering resources on their ICE's anymore either. So the B10 will likely just be a visual / interior technology update. Almost assured to still be rocking the 3.0T v6

    We’re talking S4s. B5 S4 was 1998-2002.

Those Unitronic tunes look super cool but I don't think they support the 2021 model year. I looked on their website and there's one for the 2020 S4 but none for the 2021 S4. do you guys know if EPL supports the 2021 S4 for a stage 1 tune?

Maybe that's what the up to 10,000 VIN of '02 8D is for then. A4 quattro and S4 quattro are all just A4Q to the parts catalog. But the last two generation transitions make clear AoA doesn't carry on the old platform for another year to fill the delay. No '09 B7 S4 or '17 B8 S4. Not to say they can't do it again, but they haven't lately.

The more interesting thought is that B9.5 is the end for the ICE based vehicles, and the next gen (PPE platform) will be built for EV only. And sold alongside. Like Macan (which currently shares platform with a member of the B9 group). Because what is Audi planning on B10 to bring us other than electrification? Is VAG working on an update or replacement of MLBevo other than PPE?

I have a feeling there won't be a B10 petrol engine, maybe a hybrid? Though it will likely be a 4-cylinder if Mercedes is showing a path

The new 'B-series' EV should be arriving on the PPE platform in 2022-2023. Will be interesting with the new 'D-series' EV coming whether Audi will keep even the A6 around
