GTI vs. APR Stage 1 B9??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone experienced (in a safe, closed course/track/dyno) with a B9 Stage 1 and a stock GTI? Met a guy with "only a Borla exhaust" on a new VW GTI and he was fast af. I have APR Stage 1 and he was clearly quicker 0-60. Those things are 500 lbs lighter than our cars, but I wasn't expecting it to be that fast!

I want to emphasize this post does not in any way promote street racing!!! Please drive responsibly!

Forgot to mention I have a manual transmission. Even with a manual, doesn't make sense that the GTI would be noticeably faster than a tuned A4...right?

Isn't tuned A4 vs untuned GTI an unfair comparison - just accept the fact that the GTI is less expensive and accelerates faster with factory spec.

Now if you want try and compare cabin space, ride comfort or interior luxuriousness then ..., which one would you prefer to drive on the Autobahn at 100 mph

There's always going to be something faster than an A4.

Isn't it unfair to reference the Autobahn when we live in the US?

Absolutely agree, there's no comparison when it comes to the ride quality and all of the tech in the A4. I especially love all the LED lighting. And no, it's not fair to compare to a stock car, but that's the point! I was just amazed at how fast that little bastard was stock when APR claims around 367-388 ft-lbs of torque in stage 1 in the B9 platform.

    DSG?

The DSG is significantly quicker than a manual.

~16% lighter + presumably DSG... no brainer. If it was also a manual then you just need to work on the driving
