Ethanol Content Monitoring - Flex Fuel Engines

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

Getting the itch to start experimenting with E85. I'm looking to get a readout of ethanol content...

I currently can use my OBDeleven - it shows in the gauges section BUT - the hookup is annoying (OBD port, Wifi, data, Tablet, etc). It's no good for a quick readout.

I also have a P3 vent gauge installed. It is only connected through the OBD port and I am not currently using any of the analog slots.

There is an analog ethanol sensor that I can install for the P3 gauge but it requires cutting into the fuel line and running wires to the gauge.

Does anyone have experience with any of the above or are there solutions I have overlooked? I've been thinking about installing the analog boost kit for the P3 gauge so I thought I might be able to knock out the ethanol monitor "while I'm in there".

    Thanks All!!!

I use VCDS to check “Ethanol content in fuel”. It only takes a minute or two and it’s done after each fill-up which is about once a month. A constant display is not really needed because it is a consistent reading once adapted.

Great point - not sure how often these numbers need to be monitored. It might not be work the install to have it available at the push of a button (?).

Maybe if I drove it everyday and put a lot of miles on the vehicle where I was gassing up once a week. Otherwise, it would be a waste of effort in my opinion.

It would be nice if it was an option to see the ethanol content by cycling the through the MFD.....

    Looks like it's:

    IDE00555 Alcohol content in fuel 10 %

    But then there's also:

    IDE04818 Ethanol content in fuel 10.2 %

Not sure if they are the same, just different sig fig count, or what.

Under ENGINE > ADVANCED MEASURING VALUES

You can scroll down and find: IDE04818 Ethanol content in fuel

Or type in ETHANOL in the search function and click on: IDE04818 Ethanol content in fuel

IF you want a standalone solution you can use this is seems: (I have no experience with the app)
    https://burgertuning.com/products/vw...flex-fuel-kits

or make your own off the 0-5V signal
    https://cecas.clemson.edu/cvel/auto/...el-sensor.html

or my preferred solution, keep a hydrometer in your pocket!
