    VAG COM alternatives out there?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have used an OBD II scanner/reader but it was basic. Clearing codes and reading...but...doesn’t clear the, “Service Due!,” notice.

I can’t find anything out there that says that it will clear that and I don’t want to buy one without knowing if it does or does not clear the service due.

Is there one that anyone would recommend purchasing?

    Thanks

    Wayne

It OBD11, but VCDS is still the best functionality you can get. Not worth it if all you want is the service light though.

Does anyone uses the one from ECS? I want a tool that doesn’t rely on a laptop or android device.

I want more than just clearing the service due but wanted a good priced product knowing it works.

The gold standard for consumer VAGCOM access is RossTech VCDS. The three VIN version is only $199. It does scanning, including deep soft code scanning (error codes that don't trigger a light), clears codes, data logs, and permits recoding of most of the modules on the car. Its software is regularly updated with new features.

It runs on Windows 10 laptop or tablet connected by USB cable to your OBD-II port. The purchase also includes access to their cloud-based FAQs, user board, and even personalized email tech support for difficult diagnostic problems.

    Worth every penny.

I bought a laptop for exclusive VCDS use for $35 on Craigslist, upgraded it to Windows10 (free), and spent $70 on NewEgg/Amazon to swap out the HDD to a SSD and add 8 GB RAM. Thing runs fast as lightening now for this use. If I ever sell my VCDS remaining 2 VIN's I would probably just sell it with the laptop, pretty sure it would add more value than the $100 I have invested in it.

I use carista. not vin limited and works on almost every car make. May not be as powerful as VCDS but it does everything I need and more.

I use OBD11 and it works fine for more than just the service reminders. I like that I always have it with me. At the time I thought the $80 I paid was worth it vs. vcds but I had to upgrade to pro to get what I needed to code a trailer module, so now I'm at $150 or so. In retrospect I should have just gotten VCDS.

Could not get the ECS ProSan to reset service light - customer service wasn't able to help. I went with Carista.

I don’t think I’m that tech savvy. I hate that you need electronics to do simple shit like rear rotors and adjusting headlights.

Thanks for your reply also sevarino.

Sorry but this is bullshit. Professional VW / Audi Scan Tool that does not support vehicles from 2017 (B9, Q5 Typ 80A ..... and ....)

Buy VCDS for a little more money, it's proven software and hardware from hundreds of users

OBDeleven and Carista have a simple interface, so that the average user can make some changes he wants

ODIS S and ODIS E are the only two VW official software
ODIS S and ODIS E have no limits, but you can also do damage especially with ODIS E if you don't know what you are doing
Another extremely good software and hardware is VCP (old name VAG Can PRO )
And Abrites Diagnostics tool and .......
