Does the screen you get matter depending on what mmi you have?

What are you talking about? RSNAV or something similar?

No a direct replacement of the 6.5” screen. Like from a wrecked car

Why not just get RSNAV at that point?

The J685 FID screen varies with the infotainment system, yes.
It's a different screen for Chorus vs. Concert/Symphony vs. MMI 2G vs. MMI 3G. MMI also has different screens for high and low, but I don't know if Canada has MMI other than MMI High (aka MMI navigation plus).

Cause I have apple carplay coming so I'm looking to find a clean screen from a wrecked car so I'm wondering if the screen is just the screen or if the mmi that i have matters

If you have the MMI dial below the shifter with the joystick on top of it, then you have MMI 3G High, aka MMI 3G navigation plus (I'm going off that your profile says your S4 is 2010, so B8.0, so MMI 3G, not MMI 3G+). As such, you should have the 7" higher res screen, originally part number 8R0 919 604, currently part number 8R0 919 604 A.

Popping the panel off and dismounting the screen is not particularly hard. If you do so, I suspect you'll see 8R0 919 604 on the back of it.

Not too expensive; finding one with a decent screen used is probably be the big challenge.

Yep, would expect it to be the same. Their listing is $120 or $125 (it's listed twice) for the screen, but if it's in good shape, ....

Is your screen completely dead? If it works but is in bad shape, what ooks like the screen when you first pull it out from the dashboard can be further disassembled to the bare LCD panel and electronics board. The LCD panel has part numbers you can use to find a replacement for. It won't be an Audi part but a commodity LCD panel. For mine that was like $50 or even less. Of course this is only if you know the electronics are still good and only the panel is messed up.

You should try polishing that blue anti-glare coating out before replacing it. Search google for "Audi: How to Recondition MMI Display"...I can't link directly.

Unlike the article, I wasn't able to find an LCD cleaner that would also remove the coating, so I recommend using a small polisher/drill attachment and compound. The coating is ridiculously easy to scratch but surprisingly difficult to remove completely by hand. I did it to my screen after rubbing what I thought was some grime and ended up scratching the coating. Literally looks better than new, just no longer blue tinted. Just watch the heat when polishing and pressure, it's glass.

Also be careful not to get polishing compound inside the layers of the panel. If you do you will notice some dark spots in the display when you turn it back on. You haven't broken it...but it's gonna require you to literally take the layers of the display apart down to the plastic sheets for you to clean it out...and every bit of dust at that point will cause some artifacting in the display. Ask me how I know....so be careful not to jam stuff excessively under the bezel around the lcd panel, a bit is totally fine.

But in case that happens to you, this shows you exactly how that panel is built: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiejNAUwcQ8

Otherwise if you are careful and keep things clean this will literally take an hour or less to do. Nothing is glued, it's all clips (even if you have to rip apart the panel) so just take your time and don't force anything.

    Good luck!
