Much difference between standard & sport exhaust on 2014-15 RS7?

After spending some time looking at S6/S7s I've settled on the search for a RS7. Many of these cars for sale are not local to me. Most have sport exhaust but one possible of interest doesn't have sport exhaust. It's not local to me and I've not heard one with the standard exhaust. Are they similar or is the sport significantly louder?

I've read through a number of posts and there was some discussion that the only difference for the RS7 sport vs standard exhaust was the black exhaust tips. Another post mentioned that the mufflers might be different. Some mentioned that the tune or something could be slightly different allowing for pops, bangs, gurgles with the sport exhaust. I would imagine the stock factory tune would be the same and that it's more of a product of the exhaust components but welcome input here. I read somewhere that depending on the mode you are in will control how loud the exhaust is with sport, but it doesn't do that with standard exhaust. Is that right?

If one was to go with a standard exhaust RS7, and assuming it's quieter, other than going to aftermarket exhaust are there other solutions to getting a bit more sound? I'm guessing one could find someone selling their sport exhaust. I've seen references to putting in an X-Pipe.

I prefer some growl from the V8 when on the throttle, but don't want any drone in the car or the exhaust to be obnoxiously loud when just cruising. Just trying to decide how big of a deal the sport exhaust is.

Pretty sure there is no difference besides the tips, the RS7 has decent growl on cold start but sometimes warm start will be quieter depending on the cars mood. I say mood because dynamic mode will have the valves open and some warm starts will start with the valves closed unless you manually switch into dynamic mode before starting the car or get a valve controller. Downpipes will make the stock RS7 exhaust have good growl without risking changing the drone potential.

Okay thanks. Yeah just wasn't sure whether to rule in or rule out those with standard exhaust vs sport.

Interesting. Is this what some people remove and replace with an X pipe?

    Are the mufflers the same?

I thought I read somewhere that the RS7 sport exhaust was also lighter than the standard exhaust?

Or maybe that was S7 vs RS7... lol

Rear mufflers in RS6/7 are the same. In S6/7 Sport exhaust the difference to non-Sport is the left rear muffler (and black tips). Center silencer is the same in S6/7 Sport and non-Sport exhaust. So for the biggest noise you mate a RS Sport center silencer to S Sport rear mufflers.

RS7 diagram and part numbers for identifying Sport exhaust parts:
Thanks for sharing! So is the RS7 center silencer different on the sport than the base exhaust package? Looking at that diagram it appears the center is audi 4go-253-409-ar and it also shows audi 4go-253-409-a. Are those the two differentiating part numbers?

I'm not seeing any alternative part numbers for the left and right mufflers in the diagram for the RS7. Do both base and sport use the same mufflers on the 2014 RS7?

I did some searching on those part numbers and not getting much good info either.

Trying to decide if there is much difference in sound between the sport and standard on the RS7 and if different what would need to change. Looking at an RS7 that is under Audi extended warranty so don't want to do anything non factory. Trying to determine if there is an easy factory way to get a bit more exhaust noise. I understand the black tips are different and not worried about that.

After more research it does appear that the 4GO-253-409-AR is the center silencer for the RS7 standard base exhaust and the 4GO-253-409-A is the center silencer for the sport exhaust. I'm not sure what is different between those two, but they do show two different part numbers. I don't know if that "R" at the end of the base exhaust is indicative of that center being resonated vs sport being non resonated? Total guess just curious what is different between them. All other parts aside from the tips appear to be the same from what I see.

Posting more info as I find it. I found that part number 4G0-253-409-BJ replaces 4GO-253-409-AR. What is interesting on the Audi part sites is it shows this new part number 4G0-253-409-BJ as being for the 2014-2018 Base RS7 and the 2016-2018 Performance RS7. There is no mention of the sport exhaust but find it interesting that this part number is referenced for the performance package RS7s which I understand come standard with the sport exhaust option.

Further digging reveals part number 4G8-253-409-B that replaces 4GO-253-409-A which was the center silencer for sport exhaust. It also shows fitment for 2014-2018 base and 2016-2018 performance. So it does appear there is a difference in the center silencer. I can't find anything calling out the differences but they do have different part numbers. The Audi parts site describes even this sport version as resonator and pipe. So perhaps just a different resonator was used for sport in this center section?

Yeah, I don’t think anybody has dissected the center muffler to see what’s different. You can also see the pr-codes in the photo above: 0P0 standard exhaust, 0P6 sport exhaust.
