    Driver's Side Key Hole

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm slightly OCD - and the key hole on the driver's door annoys me. It stands out and looks unrefined.

Does anyone know of a 'Plug' that anyone sells that we can stick in there? Or maybe fitting the rear cap to the front?

    Worst case I'll paint it....

I would recommend paint over a plug because at some point your key fob battery will probably fail.

maybe buy a spare plug, fill the hole with body filler or whatever, paint the cap and reinstall, that way if you ever really need to use the key you can pop the cap off

You are OCD, that key hole has a purpose, and that is it allows you to get into your car with a key.....as mentioned with a lockout or other it is necessary.

Wanting to put a plug in it, is simply stupid. I can tell you deal with a lack of experience......

I ordered a second cover off amazon - will have it filled and painted then install in place of OEM one.

Is the passenger cap universal and can be flipped? This way no filling, just painting a new one.

Take rear cap and have it painted. I do it to all my cars that's setup this way for the shaved key hole look.

I like to call it CDO ... alphabetical order ;)

As for lack of experience - you're lacking style, pal. Stupid is letting your key fob battery run out - especially since this car warns you months in advance when charge is low.

For me I like it. Did that to a couple of my old Acura's just buying the rear door cover. Didn't know the rear one fit the keyed cover on our Audi's. It puzzles thieves who like to use a screwdriver to force the lock. Technique called "punched lock."

Those potholes can't be good for those tires.

Sure, but the way my luck goes, something happens to the vehicle electrical system and the battery in the trunk dies. What then?

No doubt I'm showing ignorance but I thought the 2014 S6 does not have a lock cylinder on the outside to open the trunk, only squeeze button, "kicking foot" sensor, and remote key. If the electrical system fails then none of those will work to open the trunk. There is the emergency release inside the trunk, but that doesn't help here. What am I missing?

Nothing other than he's dumb. Plus, the battery itself is in the trunk, and how are you getting the seatbacks down from inside the trunk? Avant model notwithstanding.

    Foolish on its face.

Making this way too hard. If you do replace the keyhole cover with a closed one, it is just as ez to remove as it is to install. When I did this with my Acura's, the part came painted. So this simple mod was super ez.

Right! It's got to be easy to remove, just in case. Do you happen to know what is the Audi part number for the cover? Does it just snap on, like the cover over the tow hook in the front bumper?

I was being sarcastic. Just remove the key hole cover and open the door.

I am very detail oriented when it comes to the appearance of my cars, inside and out. It gets on my wife's nerves that my car is always spotless yet I don't really care about other things around the house to the same degree.
That said, I've NEVER even noticed the key hole---not on this or any other car.

    This ^^^^

Now I have to fix it, no other choice. However, I highly doubt when I am filling my car up, someone will come up and compliment me on my keyhole mod.

Depends if you have chrome or not on that part, but I believe the part # is 4HO837879GRU. That is for left side rear with no chrome
