    HEADLIGHT RANGE CONTROL:SYSTEM FAULT

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so a few weeks ago, this yellow warning light comes up in the dash, for few minutes and then turns off for day or two - then comes back...now is on permanently!

1..took the car the car (2013 A7 biTDI) to local mechanic, and had the AA (as i have break down and parts cover)

2..local garage scanned via VCDS and initial thoughts was the sensor on front left was faulty, as it a common fault. AA scanned and said the same thing (however the patrol repair man said this was not covered)

3..my headlight sensor on the font left was model 1T0907503B, so i ordered 2 after market sensors from amazon to try, however both sensors, did not fix the yellow error light - see link below

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

4..thinking the amazon after market sensors were duds, i went to the local audi breaker, and he tried a genuine sensor to no avail. advised me, may be wiring fault.

5..now i am of thinking the CONTROL MODULE FOR HEAD LIGHT RANGE may be faulty. was told that it was located behind the glove box, NO....was actually behind the steering column, just above the throttle pedal

6..model number is for range control module is 4H4907357C (Audi say 3-4 weeks wait at £190.00 + VAT)

7.. also read online via other forums that it could be camera on wind screen at fault, but the auto wipers, and auto lights works fine, so MAYBE camera is ok???

    QUESTIONS:

a... if i buy this part (4H4907357C) will be a simply case of plug and play, or will it need to be coded? if so what section of VCDS will my mechanic need to go in to? any help will be great please.

b... does anyone know where i can get the part 4H4907357C, 2nd hand in UK?

c... is there anything i am missing ? i am not a mechanic by any means but want this issue sorted please prior to selling the car, as just placed an order for company car now

    please see the images below

As you can still access the old module then simply copy and paste the coding from the old to the new. You will need to run the basic settings for the headlights as range control unit will not know the reference points
Have you cleared faults as the range control module shows fault as intermittant

Leave the old one plugged in and go to coding in vcds for channel 55. There will be a long number for eg 1122A6601000A300. copy this number and paste it to a txt file on the desktop just in case. Fit new module and go back t channel 55 and again into the coding tab, paste your original number that you saved earlier to this section. Click done and save/ok to proceed. Exit the module and then go back to it to verify the coding has been accepted/written.
Clear your fault codes and check. You will probably need to do a do a basic settings operation again in channel 55 but in the basic settings tab.

    Hi,

Is it still giving the same fault codes after replacement and recoding? Did you recode it correctly and did it accept the coding?

Did you check the Fuse? (Fuse 8 on fuse holder C)(don't know if for UK cars is the same location.)
Did you check/measure pin 23 of the connector to see if there is any voltage? (black/brown wire)

If there is voltage. You could ask someone to measure your CAN-bus wires on pin2 (CAN-HIGH) and pin3 (CAN-LOW) with an
Oscilloscope to see if the signal is reaching there. Because your fault codes that indicate an error in communication. So you already replaced module en level sensor. Not much left: Faulty wiring or no power to the module.

If the fault code has changed. Then maybe incorrect coding.

    Best regards,
    Marvin

Thank you for your input, the module accepted the code, however when in VCDS it came to do the basic light setup ie level..vcds would not complete it...my thought too is the wiring, so it looks like I need to visit a good electric car garage ... and yes the fuse is good too(1st thing I checked)

Not air suspension - but it’s really pissing me of now. Gotta book it in at electric specialist who does not know how long will take or cost

If the coding was accepted. Then the problem is not the same as the initial problem. Because of the first initial problem (the screenshots) there was no communication with the module. If there still was no communication, then you wouldn't be able to code the module.
So the initial problem is fixed.

There is now a new problem and I think the module is not set up right. So it think you only need to do a basic setting in VCDS. and complete this in a good way. Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to do this the right way. And need some tries.
I would first have a scan with VCDS. To see what the issue is at this stage. Then you can try to fix this. Probably it is missing calibration/basic setting.

I would find some one who understands VCDS. And first do a general scan. If there are only software related issues the he could fix that probably right away.
I think you are close :).

    ok, good news.

finally got it sorted, it was a broken wire on the jack that plugs into the Front sensor. when checked visually the wire looks good, but was broken inside.

changed the jack, and with 2nd hand one, and re solder new wires.

    all good now

    thanks for your input guys

    Hi
I have similar fault, headlamp range control module 01771 and level control system c104600.
2014 c7 allroad bitdi. eventually got to the module but cannot figure out how to remove it....how is this done, for the life of me i cannot see or feel any sort of catch release. if i pull it feels like i am going to snap the whole panel. i could just about disconnect it's blue contact due to the access restriction, this did seem to clear the code for a number of minutes then it returned. however reading this post a wire test may be best next.
when you say front sensor do you mean the leveler at the wheel?
I've checked all mine and they look fine from outside, i removed the connectors and had the extra open short to ground codes until restated...so i assume these are ok but possibly not given your experience.
    cheers
    baz

    hello everyone
i got errors on the dashboard -
Audi adaptive light - system error
High beam assistant - system fault
ACC* and Audi breaking guard - unavailable
The lights are on normally, they rotate up, down and sideways when starting.
    VCDS diagnostics says:
    1 error found
    01771-J431 headlight tilt control unit
    013-please read the error log

    1 error found
0061- function limitation due to nonsensical response
    U1112 00[137]
Fault light ON-confirmed-tested since clearing memory

We tried to do the basic settings of the headlights, but it cannot be completed, it says that it is not running, then the error 393989-settings, C107E 54[137]-missing calibration popped up
Fuses all checked, they are fine.
After about 14 days, other errors appeared in VCDS -

    1 error found
93440-restrict function by received error value
U1113 00 [009] Acknowledged- testing from memory wipe

    1 error found
    0161-video management from image processing
    C1107 02[009] - faulty signal - confirmed - tested since memory wipe

I also researched the foreign forum, the mentioned errors were occurring, but I did not find a solution.
If anyone has encountered this I would be grateful for any advice or guidance on how to resolve the issue.
    Thank you in advance.
