I bought an '18 A5 Cabriolet (my first/only brand-new car), and am coming up on my 20,000-mile oil change/periodic maintenance. I noticed, about 3 months ago, that my Start/Stop system quit working; She no longer kills the engine, no matter how long I'm stopped or how hard I press the Brake (it is, er was, brake-sensitive). To Audi's credit, this is the ONLY fault I've experienced for 20K miles. I've actually placed a piece of masking tape over the Start/Stop Kill button, so I don't inadvertently hit it and reset what may be a software hangup.
I've read that the Start/Stop function was built-in to pass US Emission/Mileage requirements; the test includes up to ten-minute periods of no-load idle (not very realistic, to my mind). I've also read that, both, a) the amount of fuel saved is minuscule, and b) the wear/tear on the starter, battery, and engine (once warm) is also minuscule. It bothers the heck out of me feeling the car shudder to start the engine when I lift my foot off the brake, but, "first-world problems".
I don't know if this system is even included on Audis in other countries.
