    3.0 V6 5 and 6speed ratios

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello Guys,

Could you tell me, why Audi brought the B6 model into US with 5 speed manual and 6 speed manual to Europe? Has anybody any info about the gear ratios to compare them? I've checked the automobile catalogue, which is highly detailed, but there is no info about the gears for 5 speed, only 6 speed.

    Hope you can help me.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers.

    I have a 2003 3.0, built in 2002. It has a 6-speed manual transmission.

    I've never heard of a (factory-installed) 5-speed manual in a B6 3.0.

To add to that... The 1.8t in the US started with the five speed and went to the 02X six speed in 2004. The 3.0 started with the 01E six speed in 2002 and also went to the 02X in 2004.
    2003 02X Six speed swapped, RS4 RSB, H&R FSB, B7 brakes, 2.0T stroker, DSMIC's, B7 CTS K04 turbo.

I'm pretty sure that all 3.0 cars had six gears, manual or auto, unless you got a CVT.

Didnt think the 3.0 ever got the 5spd, even across the pond.

Here is a good source for all the different gear boxes that were used throughout the years/motors.

All 3.0 AVK's with manual transmissions were a 6 speed manual. 2002-2003 had a 01E with grear ratios very close if not identical to the original rs2 cars from europe. 01E transmission is stout AF, one from a 3.0 is better suited when mated behind a 1.8T or other small displacement engine swaps.

My quick search shows that is not a US VIN. I think most.of us are from the US and more familiar with the US options.

    I know my 03 3.0AVK has a 6 speed O1E.

This car has a 5 speed manual. This is how it came out from the factory. Now it's a fact. All I want is to compare the gear ratios with the 6speed gears.

in my searching of car-part when I was looking for a used 01E it listed a manual trans for 02 B6 3.0 for north america, probably very early vin and low production cars. Just checked and the code car-part gives is FJV

Out of all the B6s 3.0s I have seen, and I have seen a lot from multiple junk yards(I have 4 in my garage), local part outs, online here on audizine, audiworld, ebay, audisport, audi world, technical data from bently, audiworkshop manuals, dealer part listings, etc. I have never seen a 3.0 listed with a 5 spd from the factory. What "website" are you using that is "decoding" the vin, I could not locate a MyAudi vin decoder.

That being said, the only way to tell is to check for the gear box code:

I wouldnt trust the PR codes found in the spare wheel well/under the seat or in the owners manual because think it was swapped to a 5 spd. Its pretty cheap and easy to swap a gear box and rear diff to 5spd equipment these days. Once you know what transmission you have, then we can compare final drive ratios, otherwise we're just crap shooting.

The OP is in Hungary based on their profile, and I'd guess the car is in Europe based on the listing he posted. The car could have come from the factory with a 5 spd. OP, if you can get the transmission code, we can probably figure out the gear ratios.
