Need to Add Key Fobs to 2016 Q5 Advanced Key

Hello,

Can anyone help me understand what is required to add a key fob or two to the Q5? I have a 2016 with advanced key and it only came with one key. I am a bit of a tinkerer, and wouldn't mind a reason to buy VAGCOM from Ross Tech, but I am not sure if that will have the functionality to add keys. I have also found refurb, uncut keys that I could purchase, but I have no expirience with this. I have searched around a bit, but if there is a helpful thread that I missed please send me a link so I can get to reading.

Curious as well, my car only had 1 key. From what I've heard it might just be biting the bullet and going to the dealer unfortunately

It varies a little by model year (not necessary generation) but in general, based on my research, if you want a fully functional additional key you'll have to do it through a dealer. Unlike other brands, we can't reprogram previously used keys and aftermarket keys don't seem to have the comfort-access functionality.

Sorry for just not getting back, but I've seen some of the keys online that are simply refurbished keys. I might buy one and see if the dealer can flash it. Then buy another so I can get remote start of that works

Did you get anywhere with this? Got a quote from Audi SF - $542.50 for key + $265 labor. Oof.

that's interesting, I called an Audi dealer here in Manhasset ny and they said due to covid there was a shortage on keys and that if I already had a key they would not cut me another one...
