Yet Another MMI 3G+ Update Guide

Thanks to @spijun over at audiworld.com, I updated our NAR MMI 3G+ nav data to NAR 6.20.1 recently, and helped a couple members here get their systems updated, too. I have MMI 3G High with firmware Nav_US_K0133_3_D1 (MMI 3G High) do you know if NAR 6.20.1 8R0051884GJ is available or what will be the latest available NAR for MMI 3G High . if you can PM where I could download it that will be fantastic.

I don't have any direct experience with the MMI 3G High system (our B8 pre-facelift A4 didn't have MMI), but I suspect that 8R0051884GJ (NAR 6.20.1) covers these systems, as well (see, e.g., this eBay listing from the UK: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Audi-A4-A5-...B/184237872678).

If we can confirm this, and show that the nav data update for MMI 3G High systems is essentially the same as 3GP/3G+, I'd update my guide/reference with that new information.

After doing a bit more research on this, I've updated the link in post #1, above, to include information about the MMI 3G High release that is included in the NAR nav data media.

I'd like to add a PNG screenshot ([TEL]+[MEDIA]) of the Red Engineering Menu main screen for MMI 3G High systems showing the latest "Current train version" as "HNav_US_K0133_3_D1" to the document -- Google hasn't found one for me, yet.

Can someone out there do this & send along the PNG file ? Write-enabled SD card in slot #1, start Red Engineering Menu with [CAR]+[BACK]+hold, screenshot with [TEL]+[MEDIA]+hold, exit Red Engineering Menu with [CAR]+[BACK]+hold. --g

Thanks for attaching your PNG images -- they uploaded perfectly. I'm curious about the software version K0566_3 and the MU software version 0552. This looks like an early Plus main unit made in early 2012, possibly for an early B8.5 MY2013 build. What model is this in ?

You are correct, it is indeed a 2013 B8.5 S4. The error says something on the lines of update could not be performed. I am using a MacBook but use Parallels Windows to download and unzip onto SD card, is that okay?

Post a picture or screenshot of the actual error message & we can discuss a solution. Windows on a Mac should be OK -- the problem is that MacOS Finder leaves hidden files and/or folders on the SD card filesystem that can cause the Harman-Becker software updater process to fail, so one needs to be careful to avoid opening the SD card with the Finder directly. --g

Initially I have the SD card formatted thru DiskGenius. Then when I unzip the file I get this error.

The second image with "the medium is currently unavailable" means the REM software updater process cannot find the "metainfo2.txt" file for the update release -- it should be found in the root/top folder/directory of the FAT32 SD card. It could also mean that the SD card is not formatted as FAT32. --g

The SD is for sure formatted to FAT32.. Is the metainfo2.txt found on the MMI? I dont quite understand your request, sorry! Does that first photo sent have anything to do with it? Im kinda stumped

How large is the file? Im seeing 14.5 mb? Seems small?

Ideally, you should be able to extract to the SD card directly. An alternate approach is to extract to the HDD then copy the contents of the directory/folder with the metainfo2.txt file to the SD card -- but not using the MacOS X Finder ! BTW, the file ah6a-us_rev03-001.usf is exactly 10,191,808 bytes (this is the firmware code for the embedded 3G data modem that is now obsolete since AT&T ended its 3G network service in early 2022). --g
