    S3 Aftermarket Water Pump Solutions?

    Hey guys,

I’m getting tired of the plastic water pump impending issue these cars have. With that said outside of this I’m very happy with my S3.

Wanted to see if anybody has installed a stronger aftermarket water pump (not plastic) and thoughts on the part? Any issues?

Just replaced my water pump, went with the latest revised version. Did extensive research too. Fingers crossed..the below video was crucial in my decision.

Thanks so much, sounds like it’s just part of the experience with these cars. Oh well.

Someone asked in the comments but nobody answered, when did the “M” revision come out? I have a 17 S3 with 23,500 mi.

Consider the truism " all theories are false but some are useful". Of course you have to figure out how they may be useful.
So here is a story to consider. Late model coolant tanks come with a cap that can leak slowly to atmosphere ie breathe. You can observe this by seeing the level slowly fall over time ( I have) without any evidence of leakage. As the coolant temperature falls some air is drawn into the reservoir. This air mixes with he coolant and increases chance of cavitation (strong impeller vibration) and ultimately damage. Plastic pumps are not as resistant as the old CI ones (which also failed).
So maybe make sure that the coolant level stays between the marks.

Not a bad theory and at the very least cheap insurance!!

For 8P A3, there are fullmetal cast aluminum water pumps.

You never asked about the thermostat housing...

Has the water pump on your car failed?
I wasn’t the one that wrote that but no it has not yet but I’m assuming it’s a matter of time.

Yes. Water pump was replaced at 13,000 miles because it was leaking form the plastic housing...
